after some inspiration from that thread about bonnets, and a pic in this months pvw, thought id give it a go on mine . its growing on me, although my bonnet is a little scabby to make it look really good, and i think ill roll the lip to make it look like the bonnet is a flat peice of metal. anyway, i wanted a ratro rides opinion on if it looks any good?

i voted nay. i don't think it looks right.just makes it look like the bonnet hinges are knackered. i honestly don't think your car needs it.it looks really good as is. lop 2 more inches off the height and stick a roofrack on.voila, done ;D

I think you can only get away with that on a beetle, and only then because its a nesessity (sp) (christ my spelling worse and worse)
(Is that how you spell christ?)

It doesn't much for me to be honest, your car looked pretty gorgeous the way it was, and it's still well cool, but if it was mine I'd have the bonnet the way it was. If cooling's an issue then maybe you could add a subtle little vent in the bonnet, you know little louvres or something?

I had considered doing that to my mk1 to help cooling cos it has always run hot but I decided I wasnt keen the way it looked. But if I ever do start rallying it up it will go.
Sorry but another nay from me.

It wont help cooling at all, will actually make it worse. Scuttle edge of bonnet and front of windscreen is a high pressure area, you will not exhaust hot air from here. Basic aerodynamics..... You need to exhaust hot air to a low pressure area to increase cooling. Beetles actually scoop air, as do 500`s with raised deck lids, but to get the same effect on an escort its the front you would have to raise (High pressure area) and that would only duct air over the header tank of the radiator rather than through the core. this wont help cooling at all HTH Dom

If you do it, it needs to have about 1.5"-2" of air on the trailing edge of the bonnet.
