so they didn't shim it properly? yeah i think its a mixture of not fitting the pinion properly and shimming it wrong if you look on the diff carrier you can see where the pinion has made contact with carrier so rather than drop shims off or pull the crush washer down more he's just took a grinder to the top of the pinion that alone will make the gears mesh wrong . funny as we always though the car was hard to push now we know why

A great project and a great car indeed.
It is time you had some luck on your side with this car.

This is such an awesome car, easily one of the best on RR ;D . You must have so much patience to keep going at it with the problems you've had so far!

Looking lovely Mark, glad you're getting through it's mechanical issues. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the tin in it's latest incarnation.

I'm loving this project. Just been looking through from the beginning and WOW, looks great! I'm VERY fond of the MK3 'tina as it was my first car! I had a 1976, 2000 XL Auto in Sahara Beige complete with brown vinyl roof and orange interior! I loved it and wish I'd never let it go Keep up the great work!

Good news Mark, was starting to worry that we wouldn't be seeing this at the gathering! We'll look out for you on the way. By far the best looking car on RR at the moment

By far the best looking car on RR at the moment cheer's mate it will be there but will be doing very little driving around as its running like a bag of spuds at the mo been on it for 16 hours trying to sort it and got no closer and totally run out of ideas . its just being a female dog so it'll be on the trailer in the morning

well I eventually sorted the running problems turned out to be yet another MSD ignition box so I have now removed the offending item along with the MSD dizzy and replaced it with a back to basics Mallory dual points distributor and the van now runs better than ever just wish id sorted it before the gathering as it would have been great fun to run the van up Prescott hill . and that little test run was done with no timing only one set of points connected and leads that had the ends cut of and stuffed into the cap because they didn't fit it now runs ten times better with the dual points set up with correct timing and new leads that fit the cap ;D
