been ongoing for about 6 weeks but decided to get my derrier in gear and do u lovely people a build thread, what with u answering so many of my tedious questions so here we go.
The Plan is for a pretty standard looking car that retains its classic looks but goes like stink and shocks people.
Picked her up all standard and such for 200 quid and she wansnt too bad at all.
choke didnt work so starting was mad and someone had put leads 1 and 2 on wrong so it ran lumpy as folk. sorted it en route home.
Then i decided it was a good idea to run a wirebrush over the surface rest pannels and patch them up to get it all good and such... so i did
Then i moved the batt from the front to the boot to give me more space ( to be seen later) and i think it worked well
and whilst i was at it i decided to shave the back of the car, off came that dreadful tow bumper, and such and i also removed the boot handle, welded up all the holes and filled and painted. The boot also got a door popper.
Then i took the old engine and box out, tarted up the engine bay took the face plate out and welded up a tiny bit of corrosion.
I then continued with the exterior pimping to the extent that i painted satin black flames on the front and the wheels red. i had very clear visions from the start and i want to explore them through this car
Then i ravaged the interior removing everything but the seats and door cards. it got alumnium for the boot seperator and matt blacked everywhere.
I then set to work on the mechanics of the beast. first was the Capri Mk 3 Back axle which i picked up from a local place for 60 quid. it was complete with brakes and an anti roll bar. they also threw in a pair of old steelies to keep it rolling. i need to get some with a front wheel drive offset ones so itll fit under the arches.
its an inch wider at either side but the spring mounts are in the same place. i took the damper mounts off the old moggie u bolt plate with the grinder and welded them to the u bolt plate off the new axle. it fitted straight in and the dampers bolted right up perfect. also threw in a 1" drop setup to get it a bit more squat. brakes hooked straight up with some odds and sods i has lieing about. Handbrake cable came too. this was a bit trickey but got it in. now i have to move the handbrake tho becuase of the new shifter. guess which moron didnt take any pics of this tho.... me
