OK, this is the first of my "min-reports" back from the Silverstone Classic. I went Friday so some if you get your skates on you can get down there today or Sunday and probably even see more cars than I did, and maybe even cooler ones!
My first choice of snaps is the BMC / BL Special Tuning display area. Some of these cars are normally on display at the Gaydon Museum I think (although my memory is notoriously faulty on such things) so if you miss the Classic you can catch up with them at the Retro Rides Gathering. Some of these I've not seen before except in classic magazine articles or books on historic motorsport.
It takes a funny kind of person to practiacally run past a line up of 50+ Ferraris to drool all over an Austin 1800. I suspect thats a retro rides kind of person....

Now I remember back int he early 80s it was a popular "custom" touch to remove your rear clusters and replace them with Landrover or Morris Traveller domes like this. Why? Whay was it done on the rally car? Any one know?

Morris Marina built by the competiton department for "Wheelbase", which older readers will recall was the fore runner to Top Gear. In the days before BL products could appear on a BBC motoring programme without being blown up, filled with water or catupulted into a quary....
