I realise this is probably the daftest place to ask this question but I havent fully decided yet so would like some opinions. I have nothing to do tomorrow and was thinking of dropping the front end of my Type 3 by 1 1/2 inches and to give me an Idea, I took pics of the car today with a 1 1/2 inch bit of paper hanging from the highest point of the wheel arch and lowest point of the spoiler. Then in Photobucket I rotated the body of the car to cover the paper and lowered the body to cover the paper at the front so I know it is a 1 1/2 inch drop. See what you think. Now; dropped Now with full steering lock and the tyre dosnt touch the paper so should clear the wing when dropped.; Dropped Now from the front; Dropped, still a good bit of clearance to spoiler; Just waiting for the "if there is a good bit of clearance youre not lowering it enough" but I want it useable without it feeling lowered so minimal drop. So should I? Dave.

its nice as is i reakon, i lowered my type 3 as well, although it looked cool, it kinda lost its name for being the best handling volkswagen (it was back then) youll lose the usability of it, and unless you stick some 145's on the front youll foul up too. if you don't use it as a daily, and have no problems spending out on some old skool rubber then i think u shud go for it. all vw's need a stance to em. i still do it to my polos ;D

Of course! Then attack it with a sander, chuck salt water on it and slap some primer about. Then slash the seats with a stanley knife and put a roofrack on...... (Not really the last bit but drop it, definitely)

It would be rude not to seeing as its free to do on a type 3...if you do it yourself!

All I'm looking to do is even up the clearance between the tyre and arch as there is more air at the front than the back. Makes the car look like its going up hill.
Problem is 1 1/2 inches is 1 outer spline and the smallest amount I can lower it.
I love the way it rides and handles just now and may just be looking for something to do just for the sake of it which is allways a bad idea..

The problem for me is the tyres. Needs a lower profile and drop it accordingly and you'll get the look you're looking for. Drop from a 70 profile to a 55 and it'll look teh brox

Running 65's which is as low profile as I fancy going

Don't be so homoxial. 185/55 will definitely give you the look you want.

Why not lift the back slightly, so the front doesnt look like it pointing skyward, but you also keep the nice handling and you don't have to lose some of the ride comfort by keeping the 65s

drop the front, handling will get better, and you'll stop the wheelie pulling look of a sagging rear end
