Got my brother over for 3 weeks visiting me, I took 2 weeks leave at work, and Nicola got herself a week off too.
Decided to go back to Jersey, where I had been before, and spend a week as a tourist.
Carhire, accomodation incl full English brekkie, flights form Luton, and parking for 6 days came to £800 for the three of us. The rest of the spending was whatever took our fancy. Dinners, touristy stuff an agricultural show with loads to see, and some World War 2 stuff which was well worth doing.
I will just post a load of pics, and may add a few captions.
Hope you enjoy.
Pix have uploaded a bit mixed, so sequences are not perfect, captions will hopefully help.
Pair of Healeys seen yesterday morning, judging by the dust on the bonnets, they had been in a garage , possibly after a trip to LeMans.
"Arty" shot..... liked the reflection in the glass. Someone had turned a streetwindow into a lovely picture frame.
Loads of these mini busses around..... loved the Subaru Sumo. First one I have seen.
First beer on the island with Brother and Nicola...... note the harbours lack of water.... got to wonder about it, as we seemed to miss the high tide most of the time.
Amazing detail, and look at the size, it stood like that for about 5 days without anyone vandalizing it.
SEGWAY..... Madness, and to be done if you ever get a chance. I fell/crashed once, and landed straight on my arsse, hitting my head stupidly on the ground, thank goodness for the helmet. They take very little skill to ride, and the offroad, twisty track is perfect for keeping you awake. £6.50 for 10 minutes, which honestly is enough, 5minutes going one way, then turn around and go the other way..... Yep, you gotta do it.
Lunch, Cooked Crab at £5.70 and Cooked Lobster was £7.00
Every boat at this harbour had its own trailer and tractor to launch..... who never heard about sharing or creating a communal resource ?
Gerald Durrell Zoo, A great place to spend 4 or 5 hours, at this point I felt like this.... food, booze, sleeping in a strange bed, brother snoring to the extent that Nicola and I needed to use earplugs for 4 nights..... I think I also picked up something that made me ill.
Underground Hospital, built by the Germans in WW2 using contract and slave labour. Amazing feat of engineering again.
Loads of interesting stuff, included a Renault Tank, and these daggers, as well as a bike set up for the blackut at night.
The agricultural show yielded some interesting stuff, retro, military, and other ......
Farm trucks, etc.... guess some have worked hard and long.
1962 - One owner, included a 10 year resto, and looks good for it, non standard metalic looks great on it.
SomeMatt and military stuff for the Matt brigade.
There was a recreation of some of the Black Hawk down scenes as well.
Horsemanship display at the show as well.
Hope you survived the show here , if not......
Good to be back in my own bed again last night.
