Got this car just over 2 years ago (has it been that long already) I've been meaning to whore it out on here for a bit.
I got it for £300 with 9 months MOT, 3 months tax, 154,000 miles and fvsh.
240 GLT 2.3 8v inline 4, 5 speed. 110-115 bhp.
The day I picked it up.
I stuck some nicer wheels on and just drove it round for about 18 months as I was convinced that I would have a 16 valve supercharged 2.3 volvo engine to put in it by now but things don't always go to plan (my excuse is that I have been building a workshop to build the engine in)
When I first put the Galaxies on.
I cut 1.5 coils off the front springs to try and loose the high rise front end.
So anyway, the car passed its first MOT with me but I knew it needed attention for the next one as it had some clunks and knock that shouldn't have been there, chasing those noises led me to replace all the bushes with poly ones, I stuck some bilstein HD shocks on there and also out lowering springs on the front. I have also fitted Dunlop sp2000 225.50.16 tyres to help the cornering. A guy who rode in my car for a few days while he was staying with me commented that it handled as well as his `02 celica which I can only take as a compliment seeing as it is such an old barge. I certainly corners better than ever.
How it sits today.
Next on the list is a thorough service of the brakes as they are now standing out as the weakest point in the cars handling, just good quality (brembo) standard parts as the brakes are strong in stock form. Then I will add extra anti-roll bars and a strut brace.
I have also carried out quite a bit of bodywork on the sills and a bit on the underside and the boot floor, there is more rust to get to but all in good time. I'm not brilliant at getting a good paint finish so I don't tend to bother too much, as long as its all sealed up I'm happy.
Some work I did for the MOT
Recently installed an electric fan and homebrew cold air intake too.
I also have been chasing electrical gremlins which led me to replace the K-jet loom with a later/better condition one.
[/UR
This is the Engine that I am building (and I use that phrase in the most general of senses)
(PS this is just a mock up, I don't intend to use that bracket, and the carboard mount is just for reference)
Its basically a b230ft block from a late model 940 turbo (2.3), a 16 valve head from a 740 16 valve and an M90 supercharger from a buick 3.8 v6.
Plan is to megasquirt, chargecool and maybe water/meth injection.
300hp, 300 ft/lbs @6000rpm
