So here's what we did on Friday....
We entered the site from the bottom near the Hillclimb start line and having been for the first time last year had a better idea of the layout of the place and what we wanted to try and get to. We'd not got up to the rally stage before so we figured we'd start the day with the long treck up there (hard work with a buggy!) and basically make our way down the hill through the rest of the day.
Of course the first thing that greeted us when we walked in were the drag cars so I had to have a quick gander at them.
More on them later though. After a long climb we hitched a ride on the tractors up the last muddy wooded section to the top paddock as Formula One cars buzzed past us on the tarmac track.
I'm not the worlds biggest rally fan (like watching it on TV when I catch it) but wanted to see what some of it was about. Numerous cars dotted around the paddock, some being worked on.
There was a big section as a tribute to McRae
These drivers had the air of being well known rally guys?
These chaps have just discovered someone's put the engine in their Mk3 Escort in the wrong direction.
Since the weather was nice we decided to take the walk back down through the woods where every so often there were excellent vantage points to watch some of the cars flying round the stage.
Have to say I really didn't like the noise these modern rally cars make. So much popping and banging, not very mechanically tuneful if you know what I mean.
I was now a happy man having seena Group B Audi driven in anger
Having "done " the rally stuff for a little while I was aware that if we didn't get moving we'd miss stuff further down so off we went. There was a lull on the hillclimb at the time so we just headed down towards all the gubbins round the house, snapping this in the F1 pits on the way.
More to come...
