Yeah have found the website that shows them doing that, they cut out the front of a saab 900 and put in the back of a fiat uno.
Which essentially what I am going to do, put the front a saab 96 in the back of a 96, double wishbone suspension all round!
And fit a Audi V6 in the rear engine bay. It will fit but I am abit worried about the access around the sides. There is essentially 2 inches space on either side. I am not sure if it is enough............

Missed this previously...... what a completely nuttzorz plan - fantastic if/when you get it rollin' - best of luck. Have to admit I'd go for Saab turbo power - keep it in the family and it's gotta be an easier slot-in than the uberwide AudiV6. Watching this one with interest - should be a great ride once done.

I must admit i am getting tempted with the saab turbo or volvo turbo engines. But I have this now free engine and gearbox plus everything that is needed to run it. Maybe in the future tho! To be honest this V6 puts out 150bhp, thats twice the original V4. Once this engine is in I will have to uprate the suspension and brakes to cope with more increased power! ;D I was tempted to go with a 5 pot Audi engine but they have a slant so will be as difficult as this V6 to fit. Ooh have flip flopped so much with this project, my first target is to get it back on four wheels and get the shell repaired! needs a few holes and the ends of the sills need repairing! Still got this bloody van to do, the engine and gearbox are back in, one side is almost ready to put the wheel back on, but have nicked the brake line so need a new one of those, just the drivers side driveshaft to put back and that has been trouble from the start. Then its just reconnecting the electrics and hoses etc. Have to start laying the ground work for getting a doner 96 back to cut up too.

Right thought i would make a an update on this project. I haven't got any pics of the saab in question will get some soon as its really stripped down now! Anyway have taken the Audi Coupe donor apart now, the interior is mostly gone along with the bumpers etc. The front end has been taken apart so am ready to get the engine and gearbox out soon. I am not looking forward to removing the car's loom as it has been difficult enough already! Will be taking the doors and boot lid as well as the rear windows out soon, these will be up for grabs if anyone is interested. The bonnet may be as well but the guy who sold me the coupe has first refusal. Here are the pics so far: The Front The interior The Rear I am also wondering if someone could do a photoshop for me? I want to see how the Audi Coupe wheels look on the 96, if they could put extended arches on the 96 too that would be great! so extended arches like these: with wheels like these: on to a 96, If someone could do that I would really appreciate it! As I am not sure if I like it with the arch extensions and alloy wheels etc. Am also tempted by standard track and banded original steels. But that will be harder to do!

Oh and just to let you know I HATE citroen berlingos right now! have got the new engine and gearbox back in and the gearbox leaks, we cant get the bottom hose back on the rad and the cambelt is on wrong with about 1 inch of space in front of it. Plus there are two electrical connections that don't seem to have a home.
Just makes you want to cry and burn the thing really

Well I have an update, I have made loads of progress by cheating! I saw an auction on ebay for a mid engined 96 rolling shell and couldn't resist! It means scrapping my original shell which I really didn't want to do but this was an ex swedish rally car that had been modified to take a saab 900 16V turbo engine and has double wishbone suspension all round. This means I am probably going to have to fit a 900 engine but I will see if I can make the V6 fit first otherwise all the time I have spent on it will be a waste. Anyway here are some pics: Should have it back home in about 10 days and am really looking forward to it!

use your shel as a VIN donor and everyone's happy again.. How legitimate is that? I know its abit of a grey area. I have taken the VIN plates off my donor shell that I am scrapping simply because I can declare it scrapped once I know exactly what I am doing. And I can just give the shell to the scrap metal merchant. I suspect I will have to go through a bIVA in which case the car will need re-registering anyway. I really don't understand how half the cars in PPC etc get away with not needing a IVA. However they seem to be cracking down abit more nowdays and it would make sense to build up the car with the IVA in mind.

Excellent graft dodge! Not every day you can say - I was gonna mid engine miçne, but this just turned up on t'bay.... On the arches/alloys - It looks to me that those extensions mean a complete reprofile of the flat top that is the norm, grafting in something like escort mk2 or something..... good luck if that's the case. Build photo's awaited

Well I am hoping I can roll the arches to fit the audi alloy wheels, it will depend on their offset I suppose.
About the subframes and suspension, I noticed that they are bare metal so my first thing would be to drop them and protect them.
What do people use to protect there suspension, am tempted with powdercoat but will not be able to afford that.
I have used red oxide in the past but i hear that its abit dated.
any reccomendations appreciated!

I thought I'd throw this together for you. I always like a challenge with the ol' Photo-chop. By the way, I'm new here. Been lurking around the board for a few months now. You all have some great stuff up here. It reminds me of the good old days back in the States. Anyway, enough blathering. Here's the pic: I know that you got another roller for this project, but I was too far into it to just quit. Best of luck with the build, Dave

Oooh cool, thanks for that! Those wheels will look good. Am going to use them for sure on my project.
Will be picking up the new shell tuesday night, luckily my parents van is fixed now so can use that.
Will post up some pics when i get it back.

Awesome project... If it's Audi muscle that's happening here, I think the arch extensions should go more like the original quattro ones - ie squared off rather than rounded. Would fit the swage lines already on the wings too...

if you can stretch to powdercoating i would do that as its better protection. otherwise just paint as you would bodywork. might be an idea to spray some waxoyl inside the box/tubes if you can aswell.

Well its finally arrived! Came last night on the back of a recovery truck, was going to get it last week but complications arose and it was picked yesterday evening.
Really wish I could of gone and had a chat with the guy who was selling it. Will have to find an excuse to go down to wolverhampton!
I have taken some pics but my phone USB lead is missing! Doh! and while my lappy has a bluetooth light I can't figure out how to make it work! bring back IR I say! used to so easy with that but neither my phone or taptop have it.
Fitst thing is rust control, the subframes are unpainted and the shell has alot of surface corrosion. More than my original shell but that need a fair amount of welding tho!
I also have to get shut of the old shell and the berlingo van, thats on its way to hell!
Will get some pics up as soon as I can.

Right, found my lead yay! Firstly my old shell which I had partially stripped but now need to get everything off it. The rear wings were very difficult to get off had to butcher the shell to get them off, see below it looks very sad sat there Right to the new shell, it has inboard shock absorbers which at the moment are pieces of tube. The project also came with a set of modified wings, I probally won't use them will keep my orginal ones but they will need modifying as the track is wider. Here are some pics with the front wings placed on: Here it is on my parents drive, need to get working! One plus is the wheels that came with it, I thought they would be basic steels but I quite like them, anyone know what they are? Any opinons would be appreciated

Hi, just a quick update
Have been working on the car, but not much has changed.
Have been treating the subframe and suspension, used bilt hamber products which is expensive but should now never rust!
I need to redo the top wishbone mounting points as they aren't good enough, its basically threaded rod through some bearings pushed into a steel tube. So am going to get them remade.
Have got a suitable engine for the project, a classic 900 carb engine which will be nice and easy to wire and plumb in!
Need some carbs for it though which hopefully i will win on ebay in th next hour or so.
Would get some pictures but it basically the same but disassembled.
Will hopefully have the engine in soon and will be taking some pics then!
