Alright, I appreciate eveyone is busy with their own stuff, but I'm fighting a losing battle with my old Renault 5 gtx. I could do with some gt turbo shocks and lowered springs, or some coilovers, although I'm not sure if the top mounts are the same on a gtx and a gt turbo. Also, I have an Eaton M45 blower that I need some advice with, as I have either been told the 1.7 F2N engine will not take any boost without the CR dropping first, or it will be fine up to 6psi as long as I run it on optimax. Finally, a blow though SU from a maestro/montego would be excellent, unless sucking through a biggish SU would work?? I know it has been done but would fuel in the supercharger cause any damage? Any help would be much appreciated, otherwise I will be turning up at Gaydon in a granny style R5 shopper. Thanks.

Are you not re-inventing the wheel a bit there? I don't know much about Renault engines but I always thought the 1.7 NA and Turbo engines were the same apart from the pistons. What I mean is, why go to the trouble of rigging up an SU (either blow-thru or draw thru) when you can get a GT Turbo carb (Solex?) and manifold that will bolt up no bother. Also the exhaust manifold and turbo... ...but then, one further step would be to get a complete Ren 5 turbo lump and swap it over. Would that be much less work? Sorry if I'm talking out of my ar$e and the engines are completely different! ;D

I do know the R5GTT is a pushrod 1.4 turbo version of the old dauphine engine. I think the 1.7 F2N was a fresh start, it looks much longer, the intake and exhaust manifolds are different, and it's OHC. It is pretty rubbish IMO, but torquey enough with a straight through exhaust on it. The same basic block was used in various lagunas and stuff, there is a 1.8 16v F3N that has around 120bhp that could be a possibility. The F2N was also fuel injected and turbo'd in the volvo 440/60/80 1.7 turbos. And yes, putting a whol GTT lump in would probably be less work, but they seem quite prone to going bang. Although who knows how long a supercharged 1.7 would last?? Cheers for the ideas.

Ah, I had my wires crossed - for some reason I thought the GTT engine was 1.7 . I can see your reasoning now! I don't really know much about superchargers, I'd have thought that the engine would be OK as long as it's not crazily force-fed and it has enough fuel to keep everything cool.

I ran suck through on my supercharged fiat and did not have any problems with the blower. Worth having a pressure relief valve in the inlet manifold and also make your drive belt the week point incase of blowback. ;D
