I can remember my Dad hittng 100mph in a Triumph 2000 MK1, I must have been only 4 at the time. Also holidays on my Uncle's farm and seeing the road thru the floor of his rotten Morris 1100 ;D My first 'driving lesson' was in the same Uncle's Lada 1200 in a field.
edit first mechanicing I did was helping bleed the brakes on my Dad's Merc W114, "pump the pedal, pump the pedal, hold it down" etc etc when I was about 10

1986ish - I was about 3 and I used to love playing in my mom's Mk1 Fiesta and my dad's Ford P100 company van. Used to sit in the drivers seat pretending to dive. Used to love playing with the buttons too. Many a time I left the lights on the Fiesta and my mom was late for work ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) 198? - My uncle messing round with numerous cars on his driveway. The one I remember the most was a gold Sierra.

Going Saturday shopping in an Austin Landcrab in the late 70's. Sitting in-between the front seats on the centre console of a Mk3 Cortina Ghia auto - child seats...? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Getting a ride in my uncles new Rover 2600. Going with my mum & dad to collect a nearly new Triumph Acclaim from the local Nissan dealer in the early '80s Watching a school friend spear off the pavement on a purple Raleigh Budgie and under a parked Toyota 1000. I must have been 6 or 7. Being driven to the hospital as moral support at great speed in an Avenger GT to have said friend stitched up. All those matchbox, corgi & hotwheels cars I still have burried in my parents loft. Pottering around the estate on my bike just looking at cars. Or to watch trucks going past on the main road - didnt we all do that? ;D Motorsport: Seeing Stock Car, Hotrod & Banger racing for the first time at Armadale Stadium. Watching racing & rallying World of Sport, Grandstand etc. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) *Pedantic moment: I don't think they made a Mk3 Cortina Ghia. No offence intended.

I'm informed but since I was just a baby at the time don't remember that the first car I would have been in was a red and silver Toyota CROWN Taxi, this was in the mid 80s and I can't seem to find images of HK taxis from that era.
But I do recall sitting on my dads lap to drive our Renault 18 on a beach, not sure how old I would have been but I would say at least five years old. Fast forward to the mid to late 90s and one day my father came home in a brown coupe with pop headlamps and huge dent in the offside front wing, it was a 1981 Porsche 924 Lux, I recall helping repair the damage. (not havana brown, can't find another example or paint code but it was what we called chocolate brown)
Also on one occasion we (myself, brother and father) took the 924 on a camping trip to Exeter. Whilst my father was sorting out the tent, My brother and I were playing in the car but were beckoned to get out of it. But we managed to lock the keys inside the car, my father did not seem to bothered. He went the camp site office and came back with a wire coat hanger and proceeded to 'break into' his own car in the middle of the camp site.

Mine would be travelling down to devon from bristol in the back of my dads MG midget with my sister. I would hve been about 5-6 years old. I can also remember when we got too big to fit in the back so my dad laid up the MG and bought a Marina - TBO 450S ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) that would have been about 1980ish. It's now 2008 and the MG is now in -my- garage being repauired after spending 20+ years in a leaky shed ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

1993-1994... in an 86 Sierra watching the snowflake appear on the dash screen that showed when it was cold outside. I thought it was amazing. 1994... being confused sitting on 'the wrong side' going on a road trip in my brothers German import Scirocco 1995... waving to my dad every day from the dining room window as he went off to work in the Sierra 1995... pressing the 'beep beep' button on the keyfob to my brothers '89 Jetta 1996... attempting to wave to my dad going off to work in his Mazda 626 where we couldn't see each other from the dining room window as the car was too low ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) 1997... My brother getting a mk1 MR2 which was accidentally sprayed pink in a terrible paint mix-up LOL. 2000... My brother getting a 300bhp Mk2 MR2 with Toms kit in Pearl White and being in it while many speeding laws were broken! 130mph in a seriously lowered MR2 on a country road is damn fun. 2004... Sat in my first brand new car, being in my dads new Mazda 6 which was one of the first 04 reg cars. Apart from the bragging rights of a new car, it wasn't that special.

First memory? 1992ish - Sitting in my Mums Brown and Grey MK2 Polo Breadvan pretending to drive it then managing to break the wipers. ;D 1993 - Me and my sister saying goodbye to the same Polo by kissing it all the way round. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) 1994ish - Being sat in the passenger seat of my dads Saab 900 and thinking it was really weird that the key was in the middle! 1995 - Helping my dad try some new wheels on his Red Scirocco and then running into a door handle the same day and going to hospital in it! 1997ish - The smell of my Dads XJS.

Probably blatting around the back lanes in my dads V6 Mondeo estate. All I really remember is the wheel spin. My most lasting memory is probably this one: ![](http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/LocoPolo/Jersey%202000/01.jpg) That's me sat in Bill Bristow's borrowed Jedi. Was smokey as anything: ![](http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/LocoPolo/Jersey%202000/02.jpg) Because it had one of these: ![](http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p60/LocoPolo/Jersey%202000/06.jpg) Yep, a 500cc 2-stroke ;D Since that moment being sat in that car I've wanted to hillclimb, and after competing in two the urge just gets stronger and stronger ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

The long crawl to Cornwall in the back of my dads Mk2 Escort, used to share the backseat with my brother, a suitcase and a coldbox and the smell of 4* ;D The other memory that stands out was a short blast in a friend of the families open top sports car, either an MGB or AC Ace in blue, I was wedged behind the seats as we flew down the road that runs through the housing estate we now live on, then it was open fields and the houses were a couple of years away from being started, it was a straight blast for maybe 2 miles, now its littered with half a dozen mini roundabouts and a Police station to serve thousands of houses that were built, must be 25yrs ago now ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

1975- Dad taking delivery of a green V12 E type, which he kept for a few months then sold due to it's vast impracticality. The only car he ever wishes he'd kept, but then he would 'cos he sold it for £2000, and bought a Datsun 100A to replace it ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) 1978- My Uncle letting me drive my auntie's 100A estate on the road on a quiet Sunday morning. What's so special about that, you ask. Well, I was only seven ;D I also seemed to form some sort of bond with dad's cars, which showed itself worst when he part-ex'd the 100A estate for a Colt Celeste. Mum and Dad took me with them to collect it because they thought I'd love this new blue sporty coupe we were getting. Apparently I screamed the dealership down! Strange child!!

Circa 1987-93, long holiday journeys in my mum's Metro: Burning my legs on the vinyl at either end of the rear seat, heated by the sun to a ridiculous temperature; crammed into the back with my brother and sister, a pressure cooker, duvets, a week's worth of food and so on on journeys to Butlins in Minehead; my dad spinning it on the M1 on the way to my grandma's in Yorkshire after he forgot to put the petrol cap back on and it sloshed onto the rear wheels (scary as hell when you're 3 or 4), but then travelling the rest of the way in an AA lorry (exciting as hell when you're 3 or 4 ;D). That Metro took us all over the country for nearly ten years, five up with only 998cc to power it, up Welsh mountains and everything ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) . It came without rear seatbelts so my dad fitted some that attached to a metal bar across the boot; to put anything big in the boot he had to take the bar out and put it back in afterwards. Also my dad's old orange Mini, which was cool because I thought the black vinyl interior looked like leather. It was an auto and so rotten that the rear valance once fell off in the road and was picked up by a man from the parish council (in his green Mk2 Transit pick up ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ). We had to go down there and get that back... He replaced it with an orange manual Mini. That had alloys and a small sport steering wheel when he bought it but he gave them back to the lad selling it to knock the price down a bit. Me and my brother were gutted ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) . That was eventually so rotten that it ended up Flintstones-style in the front.
