Going somewhere in my dad's brand new Mk2 Cavalier down Cross Street, marvelling at the acid applejack green interior and then seeing a Fuego in the window of a Renault garage that's now an office block ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

waiting outside a tile store in Leicester in the back of a courtesy-car FD Victor estate is the earliest car memory I have. This was c.1972
Formative memories of cars often involve my grand parents farm in West Yorkshire - my grandfather (bless him) had the habit of buying old tat cars and trackters and vans and stuff and running them until they dropped and then parking said knackers in a field. When we went to the farm I played in busted Anglias etc. Great times. And all the neighbouring farms were also a haven of rusting old jallopies. Oh, and the summers went on for ever, it never rained, you hadn't a care in the world, jumpers for goal posts, etc. I about cried for a week when they sold the farm. (c.1979)
Can you see where I get "it" from?

Being driven around in my granddad's ZAZ-968 and my uncles ZAZ-965. Discovering a mahooosive WW2 German bayonette under grandpa's seat - he claimed it was for cutting down mushrooms in forrest... riight!
Going from Riga to Liepaja in my dad's VAZ-2101.... aah, those were the days! Volga was the pinnacle of automotive engineering (that was before I discovered the existence of the whole Western car world).

Earliest motor-related memory is summer 1967, and my mum on the maps getting us lost in some really tight Welsh lanes in my dad's '58 Zephyr (WOB 246, I have a photo somewhere) with a caravan on the back, and my Dad exclaiming loudly "F***ing Jesus Mary!!"
2 minutes later me aged almost 3 leaping up and down on the back seat shouting "F**king Jesus Mary, F**king Jesus Mary", my mum going ape5hit and my Dad killing himself laughing.

my granda was "top hand" at a garage in Hendon , he used to bring home a different car every day while he was road testing vehicles bought for the singer sewing machine company.
I think directors got zephyrs, area managers got consul capris or classics, reps got anglias , prefects or pops and the engineers got the little van based on the pop , think it was a thames

Mine is either fallin what seemed a very long way oput of my dad's series 2 land rover or burning my finger on the cigarette lighter in his BMW 2500. I must have been about 5 years old, so it'd be 1984

not sure which is first, I remember the back end of my parents Fairlane, which they sold when I was about 6, also the car that they left me on the boot of and drove off in!
around the same age sitting on the centre console of an old white van with a smashed windscreen as my uncle showed us around his new farm, and a year or 2 later same said uncle sitting in the passenger seat of a VH Holden COmmodore Vacationer wagon doing about 130kph on gravel. lol

Vaguely remember bouncing aroud in the back of my neighbours Viva van...no rear seats, no seatbelts, no probs!! We had a junior school trip to a farm and they´d booked a double decker to get us all in. Unfortunately the track leading to the farm was smaller the the bus and we ended up in the ditch...it all happened in slow motion and we were all right but our head mistress got a black eye from doing a somersault down the stairs......well we thought it was funny!!! ;D Going on from the "modifying" thread i can remember when i helped our neighbour customize his MKI Granada, jacked up the back end (as we did back in the early seventies ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ) and colourcoding all the engine (yellow) and axles (red)........ ...those were the days!

Being about 5 sitting in the back of my grandads white 82 Ford Granada 2.8 shouting to him to go faster amd to catch the porsche (which he did)... Grandad was cool in those days, he also had an a lancia for weekend fun.. Everywhere at warp speed Sadly tho he retired from work in 84 and bought a 1.0l micra, which then suddenly made him drive everywhere at half the speed limit
