I'm liking this rebuild, makes me want to get a beetle.Has to be said though all that work and your reusing the flexie hoses,i did that once and lived(just) to tell the tale.I like the 2 tone look,i saw a beetle when i was a kid that was plum as the main colour with peppermint green sides and i still think that looks good.

Well after a little deliberation I have decided the whole arch should go bye bye along with the cross members heater channel end plates, it was just a maze of patches random welds rivets and lots of covers up rust and rot, so armed with love for the car I set about her with the angle grinder Few of the lovely rivets After wiring this back I found yet another suspicious join So away with it Then the lovely job that someone has done joining the arch heater channel and boot Gone Finally a test fit A tack And finish When I had a hack at the heater channel it came as no surprise that there were more half rotten plates and random rivets the front end confronted me with this A new day and a new delivery ? Bad weather and bad nights sleep left me only wanting to do small jobs today so I just decided to replace the nuts that had been torn out or rotted through the arches About all I could be bothered with, packed up early because I had to help a mate out setting up his wireless but the thunder storm put that off haha, Id also disconnected the wiring from the front so it can cut the heater channel out without dicing the loom

Right back on with these heater channels and various other bits of rotten beetle On the four major points when the channels meat the body the body work had rotten away and had been plated and filled to a large extent but as usual the rot had not been removed and the new plates not properly protected. This is one slab of filler I took off This shows the sort of gap between the channel and body Due to my wallet being empty I have just made a small repair panel for each part and then a thin layer of filler over the top to give it the right shape as my fabrication skill are not quite up to those of moler Next job was the cross members which handily arrived the same morning as I started the job And then body back on the chassis to check the alignment, id got it spot on thought geusstimation woo! But as you can see this did not completely finish the job as a few “little” holes remain, but easily fixed with a plate or two and some sealant. I have also been cleaning up bits of the body and filling two or three little hole I’ve found while I've been waiting for primers to dry, and today I cut out the old spare wheel well and clean it all up and zinc primed it ready for the new one but we have relative here for a few days so I couldn’t get as far as welding it in but hopefully Monday, though if I'm lucky maybe 2morow night. I have previously forgot to mention people are welcome to view this project in the flesh if they fancy it I'm in most day just give me a call my numbers in the members mobys section

Right I've not had many pics to take because it’s just been sealant and sanding really but I did do the spare wheel well and I took delivery of my new little toy today So heres the last major bit of welding And I gave the arches a coating with the waxoil Now the body is back on and I've tried bleeding the brakes but was a small leak so ill get some new pipe tomorow, I've bolted the body on with the belly pan seal and got most of it sanded down ready for priming tomorrow hopefully But now here’s my new toys I've got 7 lovely pages to read on installation and setting up tonight woop woop!

You're making good progress on this, it scares me how rotten nice looking beetles can be.
