Heat and steering boxes?BenzBoy

Planning the route for my exhaust, there's a handy gap down the front of the bulkhead. The only problem is that the exhaust would be next to the steering box. Would this be a problem? Not sure if it would like being cooked by the red hot exhaust...
Or would wrapping the exhaust help?

I had to route the exhaust fairly close to the steering box on my '41 Ford. The exhaust pipe ended up being about 19mm away from the box and I never had any issues. However, I have a friend who's exhaust is about 5mm away from his box and he is constantly filling the box with new grease as the heat liquifies the grease and it runs out of the seals. He recently installed a small heat shield between the two and it seems to have cured his problem. I think that you are better off with a heat shield rather than exhaust wrap but wrap is better than nothing.

Thanks, I'll make up a heat shield in that case. I think I'll be making a LOT of heatshields for this system! ;D
