Of course i stick to the speed limits officer ;D
But on the times that i am on empty private test tracks, i hammer it just like a year or two ago. Still cruise at 90 majority of the time, on these private test tracks of course.

older simpler cars can be converted cheaply by DIY means if you are competant. I watched a second hand kit removed off a Volvo 740 sell for £120 complete on eBay a few weeks back. Even a complete new kit is about £500. You'll need to get it certified for your insurers peace of mind probably but I can't see that costing too much, couple of hours labour tops is £80 (@ £40 p/h) and rumour has it that its little more than a sniff test with a gas probe anyway. www.lpgforum.co.uk (or is it www.lpgforums.co.uk, I forget) has all the skinny on DIY LPG fitting

I'm running a Scorpio TD on waste vegetable oil so I can go back to care-free motoring, huzzah! Driving around at 50MPH everywhere to get decent fuel economy was depressing.
Something more interesting converted to LPG would be a bit more pleasurable though.

my dad no longer drives to the gym everyday of the week now as its costing too much Oh come on! Surely by not going to the gym, he'll get fatter - more weight equals poor fuel consumption! ;D Is it really costing that much? How far away is the gym? I drove from Huntingdon to Norwich and back on Saturday night and used up about £20 of fuel. That's a hell of a lot nicer and cheaper than public transport. I do think people have got themselves into a mindset that fuel is "suddenly" expensive. If you're getting through a lot of it, then yes, it is. But if you don't then you'll barely notice the difference. Filling up the 2CV still costs around £20. It used to be a little less, and now it's a little more. Bigger cars have bigger tanks and this results in a scary feeling when you fill up (like over £70 to fill up a Frontera) but I really don't think things are as bad as everyone keeps making out.

the gym really isnt that far away but my parents are both retired and my dad is a notorious tight . (the more weight equals more fuel argument wouldn work on him either... he rewards his gym visits with chip shop visits...awesome) saying that he was belly aching about how much it cost him to drive down to plymouth last week. i don't have a car of my own at the moment but i do pay for pretty much all the fuel my girlfriends car uses. i think i'd probably cry if i had some of the cars ive had in the past at the moment.

i have noticed bigger engined cars that used to tear along the motorways are more nd more doin 60-70, leaving the fast lane clear for my little fiat oil buner to not do 90mph as well as the other eco cars, we have taken over! i do alot of miles over a year, but spread them out over all the cars a bit, prob doesnt make economic sence but i don't care, i do seem to be driving teh fiat more and more these days, where i used to use what ever bigger retro i have at the time for longer distance, still drive the saab alot but enjoy takin the scenic route in that. will be finaly replacing teh fiat as soon as i get a completion date, will either be a diesel or lpg motor most likely the facelift S4 cab.

I ran the Lex down to Bournemouth and back again this weekend.
Whacked the cruise on at 60mph, sat back and relaxed. Only the odd time or two I had to adjust my speed because of traffic, and at the end of the journey my MPG was around 33.
Given my speed, that probabyl the best I can ever hope for!

I see Prince Charles has had his 1969 Aston Martin DB6 converted to bio fuel. He used unsold wine from his estate.

I'm a notorious tightwad, especially when it comes to commuting. I get no pleasure at all in the daily 18-mile grind down the M5, so I pretty much always take it steadily in whatever I've got, usually slipstreaming artics at 56mph.
That explains why I managed 54mpg out of a 19 yr old 1300 Escort, and slightly more out of the Pug even though up to the last fill-up I was driving it some 20mph quicker. Then having boshed £52 of derv into the tank I'm now experimenting just how far I can get on 10 gallons, so I've gone back to artic-mode.
So far I've done 220m and the gauge has dropped from full to just below 3/4.....so if I can get 650 miles out of it I'll be happy (Peugeot quote 74mpg at a steady 56, but no-one EVER manages to attain manufacturer's fuel figures....do they?)
So yes the fuel price increases have forced me to drive more slowly. But only so that I can still do stuff like the R-R Night at the Ace in three weeks' time (which is a 230m round trip for me).

Drive more slowly? No. Do fewer journeys? Yes. Maybe it's just me, but I think going from point A to point B, via T, just for the hell of it, and managing 22mpg but having a smile on your face the whole time is nowhere near as big a waste of fuel as going from point A straight to B and doing it in a fuel-sipping and therefore thoroughly boring manner. Like those people who say "I hate driving"; to my mildly deranged mind they're a much bigger waste of fuel than any Range Rover could ever be.

Agreed.....but I'm not talking about 'wasting' fuel, I have a finite fuel budget for the month, so I'd sooner use as little of it as possible on curse word, boring stuff like going to work, giving me more to use on fun, interesting things like the R-R Night!! And yes, even I, all 43 years, 8 months and 18.5 stone of me, have started buzzing up to the shops and stuff on my mountain bike.

No change here. We have recently discovered acetone (for more mpg) and used free veg oil for the diesels!

My dad does upwards of 40k a year all over the place and has commented on there being less traffic about. Big 4x4s are definitely going slower from what I've seen. I did see an Astra VXR having a race with an RS6 the other day though. My own driving hasn't changed though, I always keep it smooth and steady and press on a bit harder on my favourite roads.

Like those people who say "I hate driving"; to my mildly deranged mind they're a much bigger waste of fuel than any Range Rover could ever be. i live in the sticks so have to drive to the shops, and as I'm never organised i have to go fairly often lol there are two ways i can get there, straight main roads (boring) or the back country lanes, i always take the saab for a trundle just cus its more interesting to drive, and i like thrashing through the lanes. makes the price of bread and milk a bit more expensive lol if i ever get the austin 1100 back on the road that will be my little shop runner lol and as I'm about to move even further out it should be much more fun. only thing thats anouyin is the distance i have to drive to get petrol, to get to point b i often have to go via point z in the oposite direction. again as I'm never organised enough to get fuel when I'm passing.

Oh, there's the obvious addition to my 'ped to the fleet, so I don't use the Lex at all for local journeys, except the food shop!

No difference here. Still get tailgated by fools and overtaken in the 30 limits when I'm already breaking the speed limit.
