Now thats a car that looks like its got a story to tell. Love stuff like this! I'm sure someone will restore it, hopefully back to the number 55 phase as I think it looks best there.

Cool find, maybe one of those projects that somebody never got around to? I never thought I'd say it having seen the different looks the car went through, but the Can-Am is the one for me... At least in this picture

I agree with you Bryn, in that pic it looks very 'junior' Can-Am.
Nice find, wonder what the story behind it is.

D-SR and A-SR are SCCA roadracing categories.
SR = Sports Racer. These are usually (but don't have to be) special bodies and chassis built for wheels-under-the-body racing. An old-time vintage-raced example here in Ohio is the Bobsy. Saw one yesterday at Mid-Ohio for sale with 1100cc powerplant.
The A, B, C, or D prefix has to do with displacement for that category. A being huge motors, like V8s and pretty much unlimited rules. D being at the opposite end of the range for smallest displacement class.
You could take an old professional Can-Am car and run it in A-SR as an amateur. And many did.
Unfortunately, about 1985, the SCCA dropped A-SR because so very few cars turned up to race, and they were difficult to blend into another race group (being so low-slung and radically fast, the sedan drivers often didn't see them below their door threshold line of sight and made it a dice to run them in mixed company).

At least in this picture Love that version of it - looks super mean here with the black steels and the carb stacks poking out behind the driver. Oh yeah, and that wing!
