How come you're using a Viva front clip? I know they were once popular, but they're not that great, difficult to lower and brake upgrades aren't cheap or easy? Would it not be easier to use an MX5 front clip or similar? Hey Matt - I agree there are more technological (sp?) advanced clips out there and would be a better handling car for it. The clip I'm using has been uprated and will be running coilovers. The car it came off was running a 500bhp SBC and running 10 second quarters so I know its stable, I just need to ensure it won't kill me in the corners The Viva front end came up at the right time, I know my way around them and is a 4 bolt install (I'll be adding tubular supports to the firewall too to combat chassis twisting) If it doesn't work I will probably go for a tubular set up with BMW struts or, as you say, MX5 clip. Excellent work fella - it looks remarkably solid in there too. Tiny bit of grot on the valance but the main area looks fine.
Have I missed the engine mentioned? I know previously you were talking V8 - but what is actually going in? (Large obviously - that's a mighty gap to fill!)
Sterling effort so far.

Hey John - cheers for the encouragement.. I'm building it around having a small block chevy (space and axle strength) but realistically, while I need it as a daily I'll be dropping in a 4-pot - probably a Japanese engine. I really want a CA18DE (non turbo) but I'm finding it hard to pry them from people's grasp (you listening JonCedric !

Yeah - there were two reasons I chose to mod it. 1) It's really solid and a good base. 2) The car had a MASSIVE history file, original bill of sale etc etc. But when I bought it back, the guy who had it, 'lost' all the paperwork (inc V5) - and then conveniently forgot to answer any of my calls or reply to my emails. I felt, without the history, that the car had lost its identity. A real shame...

Have you checked out Darren's V8 Marina on the OZ Marina site here? Using the Leyland Australia 4.4litre version of the Rover alloy V8. In these pics you can see the engine crossmember Leyland Australia fitted for the E6 engine. You'll probably need something like that to tie the chassis rails together, or a 2" box section connecting the rails at the front of the engine bay. Should help immensely with torsional rigidity. :-)

Cut some more from the inner wings... The front end is being offered up tomorrow... Very excited! The front valance needed a bit of welding (see previous photos) so I started cutting... Once you start!! Well - I cut the whole front panel off, and the headlamp panels too - It's worth noting that I did this before I'd actually managed to find one - The panels underneath were in great shape thankfully so I'll be cleaning, waxoiling and covering up for another 35 years! I found a front panel - It doesn't look like a great fit in those shots but it's fine, just needs some gentle massaging It's only held in with 2 clips there for the photo. Looking like a car again !

This is a great project, not a full-on nutjob but sensible mechanical updates to make a better car. Love it! Keep up the good work!
