yeah, they are a very cool wheel, got em in the garage at the mo, thinking of getting them referbed as i polished them myself a couple of years ago, and they've seen better days, pretty pleased with the overall look of the golf though, might try and get some tyres with nice stretch on this time, 175 50 15, see some cars with this size tyre at inters at the w'end lokked sweet.

I'm in Canada...and about to take possession of an 85 Golf, complete with westy front end . I'd love to have a 1.3 (we never got them here), but shipping would be prohibitive  . |

Classy!
I think I prefer the BBS actually...the handles and pop-outs are a neat touch.
I must admit I didn't know what a Westy front was, although I assumed it was some USDM grille scenario from what you guys have been saying. After a bit of time on Google I've learned a bit more, but I'm not sure what the differences between a Westy front and UK spec Jetta front are...anyone care to explain?

I love small displacement motors, and the smallest I can find over here currently is 1.8...unless I want to rebuild a 30 year old 1.5 . I'd snag a 1.0 as fast as I could, if possible  . I can maybe help out with the westy front search, let me look around . |

Here is an 85-86 Westmoreland setup (named after the plant in Pennsylvania that the cars were assembled in). This car is a big bumper model with the lights retrofitted :  Notice the small square recessed lights and thick-bar grille. The Jetta lights are larger, and rectangular in shape. Also, the westy lights were sealed beam, although aftermarket H4 housings are readily available. It was only available on one year of MkII, and only on the Golfs. The GTI version during that same year, came with the Jetta lights and a 7 slat grille. In late 86, they dropped the westy front due to abysmal nighttime visibility. The conversion involves the usual rad support swap, and the grilles are now REALLY hard to get since there is no replacement part available. The grille badge is also smaller than the others, so again...you're out of luck if you don't have one . |

if there was a book of car mods this pic should be next to the perfect mk2  i seriously love them without the side trim, and the holes sealed up. brilliant stuff not keen on that westy front and big bumpers, that just doesnt work imo |

the holes in the side have never been their from day one unlike my one which has them and as for the westy front end i'd love one

yeah, quite happy with round lights actually, it's how a golf should look. would still like a westy front just to store away in case i fancy a change, and yes the holes have never been there, apart from the drivers wing its all original paint. early examples like this one didn't have side trim as such, and if it has i'm pretty sure it's only stuck on, it wasn't until they deleted the quarter light window that they started putting side trim on and with it the nasty holes. been a vw fanatic for years had tons of golfs of all ages and this is by far the best one i've had,won it on e-bay for 132 quid. didn't look like this then, but i knew exactly how i wanted it,it's a personal argument every time i leave the house now, do i take the 85 golf or the 08 a4 cab. the golf wins nearly every time, turns more heads as well.........
