Simple question really... my original Stromberg carb was mounted to the inlet with a rubber and steel spacer. It still had paper gaskets either end to seal though. I'm making an adaptor out of steel to fit the new SU carb. Will it be a problem that I don't have a rubber spacer any more? And what is the rubber part for anyway, to absorb vibrations from the engine? Thanks

some of the older SU,s with the seperate float bowl have a rubber bush between carb and bowl which basicly does the same thing btw. I'm not sure how HIF's get away with it.

Thanks, speedy help as ever! The HIF does have a hard plastic spacer, so I assume that will do a similar job. If I have room I'll try to fit it in but things are a bit tight ;D.

I was just about to post on the forum on this very subject! My Audi has a weber carb with a rubber mount, but its leaking air and I need another one.... or I need to make an adaptor.

be careful!!! I think its for preventing heat soak!! i.e. fuel evaporates when its hot without it!!! Rwdrules

Tis true what rwdrules says, helps to slow the heat transfer to the carb which inturn if it gets to hot will evaporate the fuel in the float bowl, can cause problems on hot restarts.
