Picked this and nice bike frame up at the skip this afternoon, both items from the deliverers cars into mine. ( I was looking for a medium bike , and buying compost) Guy who gave it to me, said he had bought it years ago, but never got to use it. It has 6volt and 12 volt options, perfect for my 6volt bus battery then ? Will this work as well as any modern charger ? I can see no reason why not, charge is after all just charge. Or is it ??

awesome! Does ming the merciless know its missing yet? Ony thing I'd think would suffer would be the rectifier. check its output with a meter, if its producing DC its good to go, although don't expect overload protection or anything, so keep an eye on it.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Now that is nice. My dad had one exactly the same when I was a kid and we used it to power my model railway in my bedroom. Yours looks in better condition though but I remember that bit on the front for changing from 6 to 12volts.

Looks like one of those scary torture what nots from a 60s James Bond film. I'm surprised the dial doesn't go up to "DANGER"

I'd be tempted to get it safety checked just in case any old insulation has broken down and it's going to do some crazy shorting action to the (presumably) metal case, but then I'm got some kind of crazy fear of electricity anyway. Using it on a domestic supply with a recent fusebox, incorporating an RCD, shouldn't pose any risk. Admittedly I'd just drag it into work and have them test it for me, but hey

My Dad used to have the exact same one, saw loads of action with his, mine and my 3 brothers' cars. He hasn't got it any more though, I have!
