The headgasket is gone on my Merc 190e so I figurz why not swap the 2.0L 4 cylinder for something with a little more power...
I'm looking for a 3litre Merc six and gearbox. I'd prefer a 24 valve but will take a 12 valve. I'll consider a complete car.

I've a complete W124 300D engine and autobox with only 71K on the clock. Only problem is it has thrown a rod. I've been told it will repair OK.

Oooh, 3.0 24v would be lovely. Be prepared to get extremely annoyed at them coming up on eBay with some ludicrous £1299 starting price and an even higher reserve. That's not what they sell for - it's just what eBay sellers seem to think they they can get for them. They never get any bids, unsurprisingly. I missed out on one three or four years ago. It was down the scrappy for ages, went to buy it (for £70!!!!) and it'd just been fragged that morning . I'll keep an eye out for you.

Apparently the the 24 valve conversion requires some fiddling with the wiring (the 12 valve is the same engine as the 2.6 that was available in the 190e and drops right in, but the extra 40 hp or so from the 24 valve is just irresistable) so it makes sense to get a complete car with the wiring harness.

That's not too far from me. When you say you bought some parts off of it, do you mean the engine itself or the car? if off the engine, what parts did you get so I know what I'll need to source. I notice he's got the fuel distribution unit on ebay which suggests that I'd have to spend time chasing up bits and pieces.

Five hundred quid and I can strip everything I want from the car less the interior and wheels. I think the 190 is suddenly going to become a lot more fun to drive.
