And to add to my list of pointless bikes I bring you this. Couldn't resist it's old schoolness with dynamo, white walls front lamp and 3 speed hub gears. Pity it's a fold up as the lump does somewhat ruin the lines but I love the colour scheme and white walls, with bum saving sprung seat. Thing I might just leave as is after a good clean, paintwork seems good, only the back brake is faulty. I have to admit I struggle with simple mods that others seem to 'see' and turn a 'that's an interesting old bike' into a 'wow that is cool as penguin nuts' so any comments welcome?!

shorter stem, apehangers... make a bracket so you can have it half folded & ride it sideways!!

I got a Hercules compact. there a folding bike with a curved tube frame. sometimes badged as Raleigh.
I got it from a man in the pub...was in his garden. was full of bugs. thought it was no use at all. so dropped it into a water tank in my garden. didnt dissolve...must be good quality gas pipe its made from.
I brought it back to the shed. Decided to build it up. I opened up the rear triangle with a scaffold pole. So a 7 speed deraileur wheel fits Fitted alloy cranks.
I fitted the standard stem and seat post in. but even though the clamps are too tight...the post and stem turns. don't know why...is annoying.
still a tank even with alloy parts

shorter stem, apehangers... agreed, then bend the fork out so the frame sits lower and the wheel stick out futher forward. low the seat as much as possible too.

Think it would be fairly easy to lower the back end on that.
Undo the seat bolt and drill another hole in the seat stays for it. Then bend the chainstays up.

if you want the easy, fit bmx parts to it. bmx wheels and chunky tyres, oldskool bmx grips, pedals and chain ring. will make it look quite beasty!

Ta for all the tips. I've scored this as well so mat start a practice run on this: Liking the great big bent tubing frame, the rear is pidly small bore so reckon I could bend the back chain stays up, or just fit a seat on the bag carrier and bend the front fork back as suggested for the above one?

the first bike..the blue and white one. It has the seat stays bolted on at the seat cluster...not welded. so is easy to mod it...no welds to mess with.
where as the other bikes are welded. So just have to weld them up when modding.
the thick blue tubed bike. What about hinging a banana seat at the back...then have a spring going into the seat tube. Maybe cut it down and use a MTB shock in there.
Some BMX wheels will fit. But have to watch as some have 14mm thick axles. Standard is about 10mm. Also the forks might a bit narrow to use modern wheel hubs. Fork ends should be 100mm wide for modern wheels

Well made some progress, back wheel was missing spokes so got this bargain allloy off ebay. Just about got it to fit with a cog off a kids bike, and the axle from a stripped 3-speed unit similar to what was on the bike. Have kept the old wheel as is in case I need to switch back. Closer photo. All needs a clean. Have ended up with a fixie as well which is interesting! First atttempt was with a standard BMX axle and as soon as I peddled it yanked the wheel forward and the chain fell off. Needed to switch to the 3-speed axle so I could use the holding mechanism. Started roughing out the next mods, laid back handlebars and saddle. Something like this is the end aim. The paint on the bike isn't as good as I first thought so will need a repaint at some point.
