What this site needs is a listing of common (or at least "available") tyre sizes. No point in knowing the ideal tyre for youlook is for example a 195/45x14 unless you know one is made that size. And trying to use most places online catalogues is usless unless you know either the exact size and speed rating you want or the car it fits as OE. Anyway.... My question to those who know their tyres is what common or not so common sizes are available around a 215/50x14 Anything above an S rated tyre would be fine. Failing that are there 205/55x14s, 195/40x14s etc. Who knows whats out there?

I often use ebay to research tyre size avalability, typ in the knowns, width/ /wheel diameter for instance and see what comes up. Usually it'll be the common sizes too, then just search eleswhere for that size.
I've often wondered why there isn't some sort of online database of current tyre sizes. Surely it would help the suppliers as well as the buyers.

Can't help but the bloke at the tyre place almost spat his tea out when I asked for a pair of 175/80 R14s earlier! Not a common size apparently...

I look them up on mytyres usually because their stocklist is pretty extensive. The responses I got trying to get 185/45 R15s for my Panda locally were mostly of the 'you must be wrong, they don't exist' type. Readily available from mytyres however. Edit: paulmi16 replied whilst I was typing, there.

Modern Golfs use this tyre size as well as our beloved Mercedes. I agree with AK - some kind of resource would be good. I'm out for a pair of 175/70R15 tyres. No idea if they exist or not! ;D

There's a difference between 80 profile (as in 175/80R14) and un-profiled (if that's the best way to refer to it!?) as in 175R14. That works out to be 82% profile. Not much difference really, only a few mm.

175/70x15 used to be around in the 70's/80's...one of my saabs had 'em. Unobtainable now - closest now is 175/65...

Not hugely common granted but as 175/14 and 175/80/14 are bot the same size I think you should be able to score some reasonably easily enough. Could be old age and bad memory but weren't 175/14s standard fit on the Triumph 2000 amongst some others?
