Hi all newbie here but I see my car isn't ;D
I wanted to clear a few things up for you as some seemed to have missed the point entirely and others are on our wave length completely!
Bit of history:
Myself and Brett have been into the modding scene for a long time. Brett owned possibly the most unlucky car in the world and the day before his feature he gets yet another idiot crash into him
. I have had featured cars and have been building a full on show car for around 5 years
5 years is down to curse word companies and poor workmanship - however its nearly done!
Me and Brett were both getting very annoyed with the bad atmosphere, jealousy, inter club politics, people using lines like 'you need to have serious money to have a show car/feature car' and all in all myself in particular was getting extremely curse word off with the whole scene
I have owned a couple of golfs a Mk2 and mk4, Brett has had a bora and we have both done the whole show thing with the Astra's. From my old golf mk2 I still had my Design 90's in the garage and on a particularly curse word off day with people taking this fun hobby 'cars' far to seriously I rang Brett and said lets build a rat look over the top Astra estate, as I need to remind myself this is meant to be fun, and just to show people that you can build a car that people will look at, at shows - max budget is £1000
Basically the car was found at a local pub not for sale as a non runner and we convinced the publican to sell it for £75
The rest is history so to speak!
To answer a few questions:
Of course the car is overdone! Its 100% over done we just picked the bits we like the things that make us smile and laugh and went with it, we really couldn't careless if its 3 years to late, or if its not the in scene (whats that all about  ). I have not laughed so much in ages whilst building this car, let alone driving it  Its not so much tongue in cheek and its not a curse word take at VW owners (I am one and love a lot of the VW style) its just a fun car for us to have a laugh with!
I am not entirely sure on the pics of the polished cars in this thread? Why you comparing a squat to a penthouse? I have the show car and quite frankly its no were near as fun as this
IMHO its easy to do the polished smooth car than it is to do a car like this, there is stuff on AsRat thats not been done before and is unique (in a bad way of course
) but then sometimes show cars are modding by numbers...... What I hate though is when someone does what they like to a polished car and its different from the norm they get truely slated, yet all they did was do what they like! IMHO the whole scene needs to lighten up a little and let people do what they like to be individual with thier cars!
Front tyre - no stretch due it being 7J wheel and arch issues
Engine Upgrade - we are thinking of dropping a V6 in, this is mainly for us to get experience and again have some fun
Stance - the stance is good but we want the front lower by about 20mm, but its very hard to get Astra Mk3's low on the front due to the OE setup.
Tat Look - I like that
Longer shifter - nice idea and something for us to look into cheers
We also have a fair bit more to do to the interior so more to come there.
Steering wheel - this has caused the most interest. Yep it does have PAS (we are not stupid - just lucky we got a car with PAS
) and it is surprisingly easy to drive with it on.
Beer Keg - no its not hooked up but it would be nice if it was hey
The vodka got drank at PVS over the weekend, with lots of people asking if it was water or not
I think thats about it, I hope the car made you smile if it has then you get it, if you get angry by it then you are making me and brett smile all the more ;D
My favorite comment in this thread is this:
'Having fun with cars'
How very right!
P.S Do you have any Retro Rides Stickers?
