The outside is quite funky, if a bit overdone in places (the numberplate)
i hate astra interiors though anyway, and that steering wheel is horrible :-)
The boot install is awesome
must be SOOO heavy :-)

I really don't like it. Its like being told the same joke over and over. Stop it. Astra I do like? Here's aproper "tat look" Reproducing the above in proper period detail would be a work of insanity I would applaud. and mechanically at least this is an Astra... www.ourcustoms.co.uk/images/1963FBVictorFWD1.jpgComplete with FWD conversion for the ultimate "WTF?" Nice stock looking GTE Mk1 'cos I can't find the one I was looking for... I'm sure theres nice Mk3 Astras out there, its just a car thats never inspired me.

doesnt he have another 'proper' show build car though?
don't really see how anyone can hate it its obviously meant as fun he's not trying to make a breakthrough/show winner/perfect car.
it works because its so ott if it was just lowered on the rims it would be just a tatty astra on nice rims and nothing special at least this way it has pretty much got it famous in about 2 days because its all over the net right now!

I don't hate it, i think its fun - might have been a bit over-serious on my original post :-)
But i cant stand astra interiors - i drive an astravan for 18 months for work and its brings back horrible plasticky memories :-)

Is that a proper Chainlink wheel? Looks more like a lowrider/chopper one for a bicycle... It really is an overscene, overseen, far too easy to achieve look.... only difference here 'shock-horror' it's on an a vauxhall not a dub! Maybe it's tongue in cheek, maybe it's not.... but this look is getting similar to sticking lexus lights, dodgy neons & cheap alloys on to mums shopping cart (Ie: can't be bothered to save up & buy the car you want - just mod the nearest thing with wheels)! I can't help but think someone likes the look, thinks I have a tatty old Astra (can't even be bothered to buy a VW!), ooh a few stickers, a bit of rust & some tat in a roofrack... ohhh look at how cool I am!

I just assumed he was taking the p*** out of the (mainly) VW scene by attaching every cliche possible.

I don't understand why it would be "taking the curse word" out of the VW scene? Perhaps,.. just perhaps the owner thinks the whole look is (dare I say it) fun? Remember that.. before the fashion scene police decided everything was serious business, like we're in some kind of constant arms race to be more extreme, more unusual, more subtle, more outlandish, more obtuse or more whatever, when we should be about having fun with old cars.
Screw the scene/anti-scene police, you are as bad as each other. Lets Have Fun!
Personally I think a lot of the scene/anti-scene police getting annoyed at cars like this because a) they've never built something as interesting or as talk about as this or b) if they have, they are narked because people arn't talking about them.
This isn't aimed at people that straight up don't like the look by the way, but the people criticising it for being either out of fashion or not on a vw, or too scene, or not scene enough... balls to you... it made me smile.

Some bits made me smile like the Fosters indicator stalk and install, is the keg hooked up? cos that would be genius. stance and stuff made me realise how much potential this had. and some bits made me cringe. could get to be a cringey joke over time, but inspiring all the same.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Fair comment HW - My slightly rushed comment, and lack of smilies, conveyed a unintended defensiveness/dislike... I am sure it IS a bit of fun, and that rear install is genius... I still think they are adding to their fun by at least gently poking fun at the whole tat-attaching thing, and the big ICE install thing, and the lowered on big shiney wheels thing, and anything else they can think of And as such I think (as if that matters to anyone) that is a fine thing.

If this is tongue in cheek then it's great.... but sadly I think this is the new craze of those with little imagination & a yearning to be cool Expect to see this look at a high street near you *Edit - I can't deny that it does have some unique touches, some even verging on genius!

Its just that style of modifying that annoys me. Its the laziest, most easily achieved way to ruin a car i've ever seen :-p

Looks like a lot of effort has actually gone into the Astra......

Most modified cars could be considered lazy tbh. There is very few innovative cars out there. Yes there are hundreds of Rat-Look cars out there, but you could say the same about RWD Escorts on Superlites or Mini's on Minilites. People like that look and thats why its popular. True its not cutting edge to be 'Rat-Look' or 'Hoodride' these days. So what? If thats how you want your car then go for it.

I've noticed people are just throwing negative comments at it - That's not what RR is about. Nothing nice to say don't say anything and and all that.
It's different, a lot of hard works gone into it, so each to their own. Personally, I think it's ace. - I've already said that within the depths of the thread, but I like it that much I thought I'd say it again.

Surely just dropping it on wide wheels with stretch rubber is that now days?? Or is that still cool this week? Looks like a lot of effort has actually gone into the Astra...... Was just taking the pee lol. I don't really care, not my sorta thing but I can see why people do it. Been searching through cleaned but can't find any inspirationalastra pics. However I reckon painted with a black basecoat, then lots of green metallic in the clearcoat over the top would look cool. Bodywork wise i'd smooth the hell out of it, maybe blend some Vectra style mirrors into it but smaller. Some pics Mirrors and lightbrow are gash rest is cool Not bad The front bumper is worrying me in this pic, but the rest is good. Not inspiration is this case, but I do believe thats a Mk2 Fiat Uno Lowrider lol Needs lowering 2" Nice again OOOOF Sort of Max Euro lol Don't particularly like this apart from the full length webasto Smoothed indicators look curse word Lovely And some other nice stuff YES YES YES YES YESI knew there'd be somebody who'd done it before. This is exactly the look I envisioned minus the roof bars. Thats enough cleaned.be for now. My job is done lol. Matt
