I'm attempting to repair a BMW instrument pod - the capacitors have gone and need replacing. Now, I'm confident enough to have a crack at soldering in new capacitors... I just need to know what they look like! Any ideas? I'm thinking they are these are them...

Oh, I've looked on the BMW forums but the repair guides don't seem to cover this dash, as it's a late one.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

yea they are capacitors, but as you can see, there are many shapes to them:

That sounds like a world of pain to me. I've never had much success repairing PCBs.
Good luck!

Be careful not to put too much heat into them when soldering as they have a tendency to explode sending fluff everywhere ;D

Yes, they are the only three caps I can see from the photos. When replacing, remember that most caps are directional, so if you put them in backwards, you'll ruin the board. They are usually marked with a black band or a + on one leg.

Thanks chaps! I'm actually wondering whether it's worth getting someone professional (or at least has done more soldering than a couple of Vellemann kits and half a Megasquirt...) to do it. Depends on how much it would be. But at least I know what I'm looking at now!

Yeah that one deffo looks dead. fault finding someoneelse's pcb is a nightmare, if it looks dead change it but there's not much else you can do without some pretty hardcore electrical knowlege. Year the pcb cities is the current tv licence add - your cities and addesses are all on our computer database type thing.
