By day I'm a cycle mechanic at a certain slightly embarrassing chain store, but it does have its perks - On my lunch break today I spent a little while cobbling together a few components that were taken off returned/damaged bikes, and created a no-weld, no drill, built half an hour lowrider: I'm particularly proud of the chain setup - Running the chain straight wouldn't work (both the frames were in the way) So I bolted an old freewheel that had bust and was free both ways to a bmx axle, which held the rear part of the frame on and used it as an intermediate cog sort of thing. Tomorrow I'll put a rear deraileur on, I took it round to the snap wagon for some food and the current gearing is a little bit tall for the riding position. Great site by the way

By day I'm a cycle mechanic at a certain slightly embarrassing chain store, Why's it embarassing? I replace windscreen wipers and lightbulbs at a certain chain store...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

cobbled together?? looks to have come out too well to of been cobbled imo, the stance is brilliant, id be tempted to put some of those 90's style plastic wheel covers on there too.

If the chain store was putting out rides like that, there's nothing to be embarrassed about mate!
Nice ride - you able to keep it or will the corporate clones need reams of waivers and a full health n safety check?

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Cheers for the comments guys I spent another half an hour on it adding an old rear mech just to work as a chain tensioner, and I'm on the lookout for a new rear wheel for it as the one that's on has tension in about half a dozen spokes! I doubt the manager would let me take it home unfortunately, but I don't mind because I built it to ride half a mile to the burger van on my dinner, and the manager turns a blind eye to it because I fetch him his sarnies too! I'm trying to work out a way to put some rear suspension on the old girl but I can't think of a way to make it work with what I've got to go at without major surgery.

I tried, the nipples are all siezed on and 6 have pulled clean out of the rim - I think its one we took off a bike that had the rear mech bent and jumped thought the spokes. I'm sure we've got something in the back that I can put on, there is another 2 or 3 bikes want stripping when I get a few hours free.

is it the nipples have cracked the rim? If so thats duff. Another wheel then.
Could be the head has come off the nipple..replace them.
If the rims slighty distorted then you might be able to use a washer under the nipple head. Some wheels have these washers. I'm not on about Eyeletted rims.
Also to get a wheel to true up when its a bit too duff. Use a hammer...not for hitting it. But for levering the rim over. Put the shaft along the side of the rim, then lever against the frame stay. Does work most times
