well i figured i would join in the fun with all the other bmx related threads. this is the second bike ive restored/custom painted. the first was a schwinn cruiser, 3? years ago. this one now is a 1987 i think, Murray Hot Trick freestyle bike. picked it up at a used bike dealer just cuz it was nice and 80's looking! heres how it was at first...
looking back at it now it looks grubby as all heck. but it was sure sweet when i nabbed it, and I'm glad i did.
first up on the rebuild were the wheels, "Great" pink mags but they were faded and covered in brake marks...
the picture makes them look brighter than they were.
then after almost a week of sanding, scraping, paint stripping, scraping some more and whatever else i could think of, i got thru the 2 layers of 20 year old paint and had a bare steel frame. got no shots of that tho
had it painted super bright white at the Lexus dealership where my dad works. meanwhile i was repainting the wheels,. crank, and just about any other piece of the bike you can think of. when i got my frame back, after another week of reassembly, i had this at my disposal.....
TA-DAH!
all thats left is the brakes, cuz me and my friend do a lot of riding thru downtown fort lauderdale, which is pretty crowded. or else i might have left them off for good.
and if this transformation wasnt enough, i was building my friends bike at the same time! his went from this (not actual but close enough)
to this in the same span of time!
had a blast building them both... maybe next time just not 2 at once!
