I've not owned one before, but have always liked them. I've been carless for about 4 weeks now and need to get a car. Don't have unlimited funds, about £1400, so woud like a daily driver (70miles/day), that won't cost me a fortune in maintenance. Tatty is fine. I'm in Somerset, but will travel anywhere for the right car. Thanks!

Good news, my budget has risen to £2000. I'm hoping that should secure me a solid Amazon that will give me years of service...any leads?

I'll be honest with you, as long as it is solid and won't be likely to cost me lots of money on hidden nasties, then I'm not fussy. I'd like OD as it will be my only car, I do 70miles a day for work, and family don't live nearby. Twin carbs I think will help a little with fuel economy, and a later model will have the slightly better seats?? (According to Dredge's book anyway.) 2 or 4 door - don't mind. Interior and paint condition, don't mind as long as I'm not sitting directly onto the webbing and or inches of mold...although that of course would mean something a little more disastrous going on with the seals.
In terms of preferences, and these really have nothing to do with the practicality of the purchase, I like the bumbers without the uppy bits...see, I have all the lingo! I'm a sucker for period details, so like original wheels etc. Pretty much like all the colours it comes in, although red seems always to be a stunner, but I think the Amazon looks great in dark colours. Like the side mirrors on the front wings instead of doors too.
But these are all extras that don't really matter. Like I said, if it's solid with OD and been well maintained, I'll be a happy man...come to think of it, my wife will be happy as well as I'll stop bugging her about it all!

Okay, I think I've got one! 122S 1963/4 with OD. Looking at it tomorrow - but sounds very very promising.

Bought! Am very happy - lots to do cosmetically, but it looks like a very solid car...chuffed!
