That is really surprising, reading through the Marina forum it appears that the Zetec head was a very good fit. I wonder how he realised that it would be? Other details that are just plain odd (well in my eyes anyway) the fact that it has SU carbs, yet just before the air filter the intake still appears to be fitted with a modern Mass Airflow unit, makes me wonder if the carbs have been gutted and turned into throttle bodies? I'm no fan of Marinas but that is a very cool project.

I love this kind of modding. Like the guy who put a BMW KR1100 head on an A series, brilliant

OUTSTANDING!! that does appear to use su's as throttle bodies. think the plenum is a fair bit undersized, but damn clever on the head fitment . how do these people find these things out? instead of cards they memorize head gasket dimension? beats nintendo's brain training any day who would have thought a zetec head will, with a bit of fidling go on a b series block? or that a 16v bmw bike head fits an a-series? or that a volvo 16v head will almost go on a 2.3 ford lima engine, or the guy that has the honda bike head on a 1300 polo in berg cup? walking parts interchange manuals ;D

Wow!
I wonder what kind of ignition he's running or if the dizzy is still down there hidden under the "carbs"! That engine and gearbox/garage photo shows it fitted with the SU's and a standard Marina TC air filter arrangement.
However he's done that I'm sure it would have been cheaper than an HRG type x-flow B series head!

Ingenious! Love this sort of modifying. I'm with you B&D, always leaves me wondering how they find these things out!

Great stuff.
Wouldn't it be a case of matching the bore centres and the bore (slightly less critical) then just sorting the water/oil galleries? Not easy by any stretch of the term but still quite 'straightforward'

Its mostly trial and error, although having a good eye for dimentions and a stack of old parts to try things out on helps. For headswaps, comparing head gaskets is a good guide to what is possible One thing puzzles me tho. thats a ford t9 gearbox mated to the marina bellhousing. If he wanted the ford box, why didnt he just bolt the whole zetec to it?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

There's only one oil feed to the head on the B series and I guess you could make that external. So you'd just need to make sure the top end oil had a route to flow back to the sump through the disused pushrod openings. Biggest issue I imagine is head stud quantity and positions. Really not that easy to move that kind of thing! I wonder if any alterations had to be made to waterways and if so what effect it would have on flow around differently designed head and block

That really is top modding - nice to see someone coming up with another alternative for the b series. Excellent outcome and awaiting details, as are almost all B series owners I presume! ;D The guy is a genius - hats off

Wouldn't a Rover M/T-series head be a better fit? The block they sit on is a derivative of the B-series one.

I love mods like that, quite pointless but worth doing just to show they can be done. My mate Ben (polodragin on here) has a tunnel ram off a Ford 302 Windsor which was fitted with Cleveland heads, called a Clevor. Apparantley it was a well known mod in the 70s/80s before aftermarket heads too off, as the Cleveland heads have huge ports. Sadly nobody does it any more as aftermarket heads are cheaper, don't require as much work and flow loads better. Edit - Just found a link www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/30220_clevor_engine/index.htmlwww.darkhorseracing.net/clevor_head_mod.htmMatt
