Thought I would stick up my espresso machine project, not really doing modifications more poking around it till it works properly again ;D still some of you might find it interesting
Spotted it mis-described on e-bay with a low buy it now price and it was within a sensible distance
From those pictures and a poor description I worked out what it was and decided to take a chance on it.
It is a La San Marco 95-31 2 group. These normally retail new around £3500 plus VAT. This particular example is 6 and a half years old , it apparently came out of a cafe that closed and then spent a couple of years sitting in a garage.
When I picked it up it was obvious that it hadn't had a hard life but it hadn't been cleaned down the last time it was used So I gave it a serious clean down in the middle of the kitchen floor it was full of saw dust and splattered with paint probably from when it was sitting in a garage.
The 5 core power cable worried me that I might have bought a 3 phase machine but taking a side panel off revealed a wiring diagram showing how to wire it for single phase.
So next I plumbed it in to my homes water supply, plugged it, switched it on and stood back. No fuses blew - good, pump sized - bad, half an hour of switching on and off unsized the pump - good, boiler heats up - good, boiler reaches correct pressure and stops heating - good, steam wands work - good, hot water works - good, group heads don't work - jolly pain in the backside
So now I have started to strip it down to find out what is up with it. I will be descaling it all - it might have a blockage caused by scale - and servicing it - group head gaskets on commercial espresso machines should be replaced at least every couple of years.
The strip down so far
Pressure vessel with lots of plumbing connections
