I think it says "Please excuse the mess, we had a fire last (night?)" ;D Looks a crackin' show. Great pics "Please excuse the mess, we had a little fire last week..." Great show - here are a few pics I took... Beautifully restored Celica... ...pimp interior too! I keep seeing this driving around Ipswich - good to finally get a picture of it. Minis various Lovely old camper Pretty little Lancia And concourse BMW Ultra rare A30 pickup And what old duffers show is complete without a brown VDP?! Tractors a plenty Pretty ladies doing cartwheels in the air But the highlight of the show was a fly-past from a Tornado and a Lancaster As it flew over, everybody went silent. It had such a profound effect on many of the show attendees, and I had goose pimples for a good while afterwards. There are only two Lancasters in flying condition left in the world. This is one, and the other is in Hamilton Ontario in Canada. I have now had the priveledge of seeing them both. My grandfather was shot down in one of these (and recorded his story of being on the run in Germany for a few weeks), so they have a special place in our family. They offer crew flights in Canada for huge amounts of cash. One day I will fly in a Lancaster.

agreed though Lancs are/were awesome planes - My grandad was a tail- gunner, and shot down over africa (albeit in a halifax that time)

If that's the only flying Lancaster around these parts, it was flying all around our house at one point last year! Fantastic noise. Wonder if it lives local-like?
A35 looks like a home made jobbie - with an A30 rear window by the looks of it. Get a rear shot?

I should have known the difference as well - spits had a bubble canopy and a broader wing anyway

Was gonna mention it was a Hurricane, pipped at the post though Either way, it ain't a Tornado Love the noise that Lancaster makes - used to fly over my house all the time, and still does around twice a year around the Battle of Britain memorial time. Makes the earth rumble, its amazing Looks like an awesome show, though. Didn't even know about it

Hurricane - yeah, I knew that Wierd, I'm sure I typed Hurricane - must have been thinking of something else whilst typing... They were suppose to have a Spitfire too, but it couldn't make it...

Here, Piffle, some my Lancaster shots taken at Mustangs & Legends at Rickenbacker AFB last year. The highlight of the show for me. This was the Bentley of the air in the ETO, double the payload of the B17. Majestic. Wow, good photos Blitz. I have sat in that very machine The noise of 4 Merlins going overhead cannot be beaten... On saying that, I seem to remember that the Canadian built Lancaster had lesser engines.

That Taunus (I think?) Hardtop needs some treatment from the Seth stick! Genuine A35 pickups had a square back window so that is definitely a home-brew, perhaps from a countryman? Great fly-past pics U-P

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I should have known the difference as well - spits had a bubble canopy and a broader wing anyway... not so the early marks of the spit and hurricane look very similier its only really the oil cooler and supercharger under the wing that was different (looks wise anyway) don't worry i'll get me anorack. lol

If your location is the flatlands that is the Lincolnshire fens then yes it is local to you it is part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which is based at RAF Coningsby - www.bbmf.co.uk/

I should have known the difference as well - spits had a bubble canopy and a broader wing anyway only the later ones had a bubble canopy, so if you where tall, you had to put up with a sore neck of a face full of bugs...
