Here it is at last.....1769cc of Heavy Oil-burning Gallic Chic. Or something. It's gold. The only thing that lets the paint down's the bonnet which has some big-ass scratches across it. Which you won't see when it's Satin Black. Just the bonnet, not the whole car. ;D The wheeltrims don't match. Don't care, I've got 5 14" 1600GTi Speedlines with good tyres waiting to go on, at the same time as a 50mm drop. ;D This is definitely staying. OAP-tastic!!!!!!!!. Genuine 104k from new in 1991. Interior: Mint. All that's to be done in here is rip the stock Clarion out and throw my spare Kenwood head unit in. The Escort's hopefully going on Wednesday 14th May, so Plastique Bertrand (with a registration number like that I couldnt resist, sorry) will be pressed into service from 15th May. MOT'd until March 09 and taxed until the end of August. With gracious thanks to my dad's girlfriend who has owned this car for the last 4 years but, in a fit of benevolence brought about by him buying her a Suzuki Vitara, has given it to me. Yup, that's right......no money changed hands. ;D

I had a non-turbo 3dr 205XLD a few years ago that was almost painfully slow, this one's much more sprightly than that, she'll rock along at 90 all day and still do 50+mpg, dad's gf was getting over 60mpg out of it, but then she's fiftyeleventynine or something.. ;D

Excellent work! My friend is chucking in his 406TD for one of these, he reckons the 205D is nippier.

Great stuff! You seem to be getting into these Gallic automobiles recently! Run it on veg oil and I'm pretty sure running costs would be so low you'd actually earn money by driving it (or something like that!) I had a 205 XLD for a while, it was the grottiest motor I've ever had! ;D The doors didn't lock, but it had the ultimate security device as it was utterly rancid, partly due to the massive rust hole in the roof letting in water and making the interior mouldy. Saying that, it did about 487.55 miles to the gallon and was quite nippy really, for a non-turbo diseasel. Still started 1st time even after racking up 255,000 miles. Sold it for £50, which was £20 less than I paid! ;D ;D ;D

Probably not GR8 4 VEG OIL as most of these have Lucas injector pumps.

Good little car's the 205 diesel, and so economical it would cost you more to walk probably.
Slightly O/T but you wouldn't want to sell me a Speedline Pepperpot? I only ask as one of mine is badly buckled. I don't need the tyre.

These had better mid range acceleration than the 1.9 GTI if I read right. Not the 1.6s though, they were clenchingly short ratio-d to make the most of the go. I like the gold OAP ness bri - is the satin black thing a trademark on your motors? Reckon the Volvo would look teh sex in satin grey TBH. I thought Plastic Bertrand were Belgian? I's born in 1983 by the way, I just have a geekish approach to music

But it was the only tenuous link I could find with PVC. ;D The intention's to only satin black the bonnet, nothing else. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a pair of early 80's yellow foglights as well. Step one, however, is to finish cleaning up these rimz and get them fitted. Before: Ewwwwwww After: Oooooooooo ;D

I used to have a 1984 GRD, one of the first into the country and it was superb. I don't think it had the mid-range of a gti, but it was certainly nippy and opened my eyes to the benefits of diesel fuel.
I have a couple of spare fuel filters which you can have gratis, if they're the same as yours. I also have a spare graphite grey grill which might complement the satin black bonnet nicely. Ooh, another thought, if you want to go for a full on black-front-end assault, I have a black bumper trim strip you can replace the bling chrome one with. All free plus postage.
Cheers,
Antony

first thing on your list of things to do is check your injector pump if your lucky and have a bosch one pour some veg oil in the tank and enjoy half price motoring btw asda have currentyl rolled back the price of 1L crisp and dry to 67p in some stores so pull yourr finger out and check that pump

Nice!
Doubt these can out-do a GTi, you must be thinking of the turbo. A TD Escort could apparently leave an Escort Cossie behind in the mid-range stakes.
Owned a BX with this engine and even that had respectable performance. But then I was used to 2CVs...

With that title, I thought you had painted it blue. Reminded me of one of my mates 205D's. He drove one down to Bodmin (from Southport) with next to no brakes, 70/30 derv/veg mix and driving like a rally driver...the gearbox exploded at Bodmin. He then picked up a new one, painted it in 'Apple White Emulsion' with a roller of course, and drove it back! What a car that was. memories!
