Brought this in order to convert into something to camp in when we went on holiday as on the eBay advert, it sounded like an ideal running project. But when me and my brother acually saw it, I soon changed my mind as its too nice and original to mess round with. As the title says, its a 1965 Land Rover Series IIa long wheel base. It was originally used at Liverpool docks for a few years, then layed up for 30, the previous owner got it running again, then I brought it. Everything on it is original. Its fot 68k on the 2¼ engine (all original miles) and is relativly rust free. Now, I'm going to use it to go greenlaning in and on the odd pay'n'play, but it will be used to trailer stuff about and trailer my clubman when we head off to the Nürburgring. It needs the cooling system looking at as it starts to boilover after about 20minutes of motorway driving, but apart from that, its fantastic. Me, SWMBO and the dog went to Sutton Coldfield Park today for a walk, so it would have been rude not to go in the Land Rover ;D

Sorted the overheating problem today. The thermostat was full of curse word, so took it out and cleaned it. Also flushed the radiator out and took even more curse word out. Got the orange light going too Next is to put in a new oil pressure and water tempreture guage in.

nashvillefiles.com/blogpictures/tcb_042905/engine1.jpgSee that pipe that comes from the bowels of the engine? The one between the filter bath & the engine itself? Tip it down that. Glug glug glug lovely. Then watch as it pisses all over your drive over the next few hours. LOLOLOLOL.

Cheers guys Thought it was that one, but didn't fancy finding out the hard way if it wasn't and having oil on the driveway isn't an unusual thing Problem is visiting the parents with there blockpaved drive and yea Posam, the Clubman's off to the Nürburgring. Probably be next summer now as Anna is 11 days away from dropping our little boy I may trailer the 35 and Anna drive the Clubman though as she loves driving it.

Splattered driveways are a way of life with a Land Rover, if it's not leaking it means there's no oil in it, simple. Purchasing a totally unsuitable vehicle just before the birth of a babbaloo; smart move! I did much the same, 'cept I managed to keep my LR secret for about 3 months. ;D

Since I'm keeping this now, I'll update the thread a bit. I fitted the new oil and tempreture guage ages ago, but never got round to putting the picture up. Went to the lockup yesterday to get the Land Rover so I could work on it at home and to put the Clubman into hybernation for the winter. Had to get the jump leads out as the battery was flat but started up first time. Soon as I got onto the main roads from the side roads where the lockup is I noticed the clutch was slipping. I've had a look round and a few places/forums have said the clutch is probably OK, it just needs more oil/oil change. Is this right? It was quite low on the oil and it does need a change as its jet black. One more question for the cleaver landy people, the switch panel just above the starter button have some switches/knobs on it (Second closest to camera). It looks like a 3 position switch, guessing ON-OFF-ON. Any ideas?

Finally went to the lockup yeterday to start work on the one outrigger. The biggest fail part when it went for its MOT. Got my compresser out to blow all the curse word off and from around it so I could see how bad it is. Hmm... Not great. Looks like a new outrigger will need ordering. Do you just unbolt the suspension and body, cut off old outrigger, weld new one and bolt back together?

Yeah that's pretty much it, firstly you'll need to remove the spring from the spring hanger, and put something in place to give you a datum point to align the new spring hanger with. I've seen some spring hangers welded on slightly out of alignment, it gives a bit of a wonky stance!
