Hello all! Some of you may have seen this on other forums, but I thought I would post the progress so far on here becuase I did some work on it today to allow me a better working area over the summer! SO! are we sitting comfortably? then i shall begin. I purchased this car in september 2006 looking like this I don't have any more pics of the car before i started modifying it! I bought the car as an inbetweeny car while i was between jobs and company cars! In the four months i used it every day and it never let me down once! it was good on fuel, fairly fast, good ride, and just a great car all round. When i got my new job and car, I decided to keep the favorit and modify it! My initial idea was to high comp the engine and turn it into a rally car. So i got the car up some homemade ramps and started to strip it down! most of the above pictures should be clear enough! A neighbour then gave me a vauxhall cavalier FOC, so i thought about installing the 2ltr engine into the front of the fav, but realised it was a lot of work, and so had an idea! what about putting the engine into the back to make it mid engined rwd! So i took out the front subframe that holds the wishbones and the rear engine mount and offered it up into the boot Looked like it should fit, so i took the plunge and got the grinder out no going back now! So next i removed the engine from the cav along with a few other bits and had it scrapped (was totally rust ridden!!!) I kept all the suspension componants off it goes

SOO... out came the skoda engine (which is now the turbo donor for the estelle!) my front garden - a little traveller! never mind though! onward - So next came the process of making the subframe fit into the back. I got some 50 mm box and cut out the rails I then fited a spacer to the rail to allow the subframe to sit at the correct level! roughly fitted into place! the front cross member consists of a 50 mm box cut to length with the correct angle on the end to mate with the chassis rails! roughly fitted into place the subframe was then fitted into place! will need lots of re-enforcement to ensure that it is strong enough for 350 bhp.... oops did i forget, once this thing is built, its going to get a c20let engine (vauxhall calibra turbo engine) woot! just tacked into place atm! so here is a shot of the line of the subframe to chassis on goes an upright and a wheel finished ride height?? So then i realised that i would have to cut out the inner wheel arches to allow the track rods and suspension to fit.. nice!

In order to allow the wheel to fit up into the wheel arch the arch needed to be flaired! so out came the grinder again ! now came the time to try and throw the engine in off came the gearbox and that was installed first in it goes DAMN the drive shafts hits the chassis rail! I was hoping to maintain as much of the origional car as possible to make my job easier but no! You can see the bit that need to be cut out clashes with the chassis rails So i hacked out the chassis rail to allow the box to fit in goes box and drive shaft again and connected to the macstrut! nice!

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

thanks so - time for the engine to go in! i offered the engine up to the gear box and checked to see what i needed to cut out of the other side! no sooner said than gone back in again and linked to the gear box! sweet! in go the rear suspension units at this point i got a little overwhelmed!

iron - thats the plan mate! I am going to try and hide the engine in the back, keep it on big steel rims, and paint it either matt black (black was never a factory option on these cars so that would be cool!) or keep it the origional 'grampian grey'!
it will still take a while but within this year i want it turning its wheels!

I remember reading about this on a Vauxhall forum...Can't remember which. It was a while back though - you'd only just notched it for the driveshaft. Nice to see you're still steaming ahead ;D *n PS: Keep it grey

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

ah well that was a while ago, and i have part of the rear cage in now, I will stick some pics up later! My welder broke shortly after putting the cage in and so work stopped for about 4 months while i tried to sort a new one out! that is almost sorted now and so i have moved the car (again pics to come!) so i can carry on strong!
