Well I've heard about these legendary australian specials before but never seen one, and finally on OZ Ebay I've found one. cgi.ebay.com.au/MARINA-COUPE-SIX_W0QQitemZ260230911670And I've got a pal who emigrated over there a couple of years back, the question has been asked - how far and is it near him?

I used to deal regularly with one of the blokes who worked for BL in australia back in the day, and is involved with the Jaguar/Land Rover side these days. We got talking about the technical archive and how the UK had lost so much of the technical archive and he happened to inject that Australia still had most of the technical drawings for everything they produced and proceeded to tell me about these.
Apparently the local market at the time just wouldn't but a 4 cylinder so they but the six in solely for the Aus market. Bump steer is a problem so I'm told...

shame they didnt put longer doors on the coupes, could have been a good looking car then, typical BL cheapness.

I think that sign is misleading. SCARY KITTY SAYZ "UR SILZ R CRUSTY" Would love to see more info on these. I guess there might be stuff on teh Auston Rover site? Not had a look yet. I imagine they were a continuation/replacement for the 6 cylinder small Farinas?

Those sixes are rare here even but I worked on them when they were new and they are terrific and very strong. I've never seen one worked over, mainly because Holden and falcon stuff was more common in OZ and cheaper. There were single and twin carb versions. in fact I had thought of building one for the salt with injection but i couldn't dig one up anywhere!. A lot of OZ cars were fitted with sixes back then for marketing reasons, the most popular are the Chrysler Centuras, with a 265 Hemi six they are the ultimate sleeper in standard form... Sold in Europe as a Simca... www.valiant.org/centura.html

there was a 4.4 litre straight 6 cortina available down under as well I seem to remember. 4.1 liter Ford Falcon Cross flow six with a seperate intake manifold . The heads are highly desirable with Mustang Racers in the US because they bolt to a US block and you can run decent carbs .If you know your American Ford sixes, you'll know they have a one piece head /intake manifold design which can only be described as Rubbish. The 4.1 Cortina came with an Auto trans or shyte Ford single rail 4 speed, but really rare ones came with the US sourced Top loader. I just sold a gear lever for a Cortina top loader on the 'bay for $160 ...so theres a big demand for curse word like that. They're not a fast car ,more a smooth cruiser in standard form but I haven't seen a standard one for about 10 years.. ;D

I remember, one of the first mags that burned into my memory had a Marina saloo, matt black ( even then it was cool! ) with arch extensions and a straight six fitted - in street machine a looong way back. That is probably the car that got me started - humble beginnings and till trying to stay with the British tin ;D Would've loed these to have been on offer! ooooohhhhh

the question has been asked - how far and is it near him? The problem is Arthurton isn't near anything or anyone. Even I had to look it up and I live here. I remember, one of the first mags that burned into my memory had a Marina saloo, matt black ( even then it was cool! ) with arch extensions and a straight six fitted - in street machine a looong way back. First one I saw (eye sore?) was in an Aussie Street Heat mag with a Mulleted bogan lounging on the grass next to it drinking a beer. The rest of the article was all about how he couldn't make the V8 fit no matter how much he cut. I'll see if I can find it for a scan.
