Looks like my little Golf is in for the chop, a couple of days back I picked this up from the For Sale section. It's a C3P0 gold BMW E28 528I purchased for the princely sum of £250! Its got a years MOT so I really can't go too far wrong or can I? The good bits, the engine seems willing, revs sweetly, engine bay looks surprisingly clean, the steering feels good (was a tad concerned as to what a steering box would feel like compared to a normal rack). Oh and its got electric adjustable seats and head rests Woo! The bad, the exhaust is a little loose and likes banging into the detachable tow bar. The battery needed replacing, there is rust here and there. The interior is teddy bear brown and I've been advised not to try the rear electric windows because they are one way only (down then they come off the runners!).

Nice retro ride, sounds like a bargain! That list of jobs doesn't sound too daunting either, the kind of thing you can tackle at your leisure over a series of weekends I expect

Bargain-tastic mate, got a soft spot for a 'shark nose'. Most I've seen of late are knackered & auto or mint and a 518. Brown dash has to stay.

If I changed the brown dash I would need to re-do the entire interior, so the dash will definitely stay as it is!
Oh and Street, hopefully I'll have the small list of jobs sorted within the next couple of weeks. After that it will be just a matter of running it for a while and figuring out whether its worth tackling the rusty bits (with an aim to get it though next years MOT).

No big plans but a little tidying up would be good and its a little soft and rolly polly at speed. Maybe some firmer springs etc etc, just depends on my cash flow.

Absolutely LOVE that! I had an E28 525e LUX was a 1988. I loved it soooo much. Will dig out a photo and post it on here. Worked okay for a while, needed a bit of welding in the floor pan in the boot, otherwise okay. Then it developed a fault whereby it decided it would cut out at whim, overtaking? Not any more you ain't! Had to scrap it in the end and flog the wheels. Such a shame, would love another one.
You look after that as its a fantastic car (can flick tha back end out very easily indeed). Not many shark nose jobbies left. Also, enjoy watching the MPG guage go straight down to zero everytime your right foot twitches slightly. Enjoy it!

Also, enjoy watching the MPG guage go straight down to zero everytime your right foot twitches slightly. Enjoy it! He he, I know what you mean, those MPG gauge things (I had one in my 944 as well) are amusingly useless but I do like them. Anyway a slight update. I've figured out how to set the on board computer thing to English (miles/gallons etc) unlike the MPG gauge this actually gives you proper MPG readings, today mine was 16.6! Also I have tidied the untidy wires hanging from below the stereo and best of all I have found out why the exhaust is loose. Somebody in there infinite wisdom decide to replace perished rubber zorst hangers with cable ties! You really do have to wonder what goes through some peoples heads, considering you can pick up replacement rubber hangers for about a fiver. So tomorrow new hangers will be going on.

I'm loving the colour combo....especially the brown dashboard!!! It's growing on me, wouldn't really have been my first choice! Nice video Dom, shame it has no sound but the car looked very tidy.

A little update, after a short journey the golden wonder would dump a couple of litres of coolant out. It turned out that the water pump was leaking. Yesterday evening I made a start on replacing the pump... Apart from taking the fan shroud, the belts, a small section of hose and creating a slick of coolant across the car park (kinda miss judged how much would escape!) I really didn't get too far. Just need to figure out the best way to get the viscous fan off with out damaging the pulley and I could've done with more daylight! The bay of the beast... The opening with the bright green fluid is part of the pump. Do you think having a battery marked "Alfa Romeo" will generate bad Karma when situated in the bay of a BMW?! After taking some advice, Saturday morning I jumped on my bike, nipped to Halfords , purchased (got ripped off) a proper viscous fan spanner. I then whipped the fan off, the coolant pump came out without too much of a struggle. The surrounding area was cleaned of old gasket, then on with the new. Shiny! Belts back on... After re fitting the fan and shroud I decided to stop for lunch, got a bit fed up of being drizzled on. Lunch polished off I went back outside for yet more drizzle and more importantly a good old coolant bleeding session. Everything now seems okay, crosses fingers, touches wood!
