OK, Ihave to take my 1 year old out in the Cadillac tomorrow. No problem, I have a suitable infant seat and the car has 3 point inertia reel belts in the front. INfant in a seat can legally ride upfront in an approved seat so long as there are no airbags.
Job done.
Except...
The Cadillac has reels on both the shoulder and the lap belt (unlike most UK market cars which have a fixed belt across the lap)
Also, also the reels don't lock with a tug like you'd expect.... Maybe they only "lock" when the ignition is on or maybe they are broken (but that would mean all 4 reels on both belts were faulty together which seems odd)
So suggestions as to whether this is a safe and appropriate place to put a child seat. I am obviously very nervy about doing the wrong thing here....
We're just checking if it can be mounted with lap belt only in which case it can go in the back seat which I'd prefer I think

What seat is it? I'll get Mrs P.Weasel to give an adjudication when she gets in from work (at Mothercare)

If there was any doubt as to the safety I wouldn't risk it.

Do you have a roofrack? Yes, I know it's a bit 'scene' but it could be the answer to your prayers *n PS: Unless it weren't patently obvious, the above post is a joke. I do not endorse the strapping of infants to the top of cars. Wait until they're toddlers. PPS: Unless that weren't patently obvious, the above postscript is also a joke.

Mrs Akku did the rather briliant trick of asking the Britax website rather than the online tat-lovin-convention. The seat is fine for use with a lap belt, of which I have a choice of inertia and static ones in the car. I can do it tight as you like on the centre lap belts in front or rear so its mounted centre rear now.
But thanks for your responses.
Except Penski. ;D
PS a roof rack would mark the vinyl roof.

This may answer the seatbelt question. The rest I don't know about, Honest John in the telegraph said never to put a child seat in a car without isofix points, but he's a retard so who knows?

LMOA, Honest John must indeed be a retard. Kids have been fine in cars in crashes where there was no ISOmount / ISOfix. I bet the Britax racing seat thing my dad bolted in my mum's old Mini Clubman when my bro was a kid was safer than the factory fitted seats for the adults. Is a 3 ton funkin Cadillac, anything smaller than a Scamell is going to LOSE in a tangle with that.... I just need to keep the seat secure is all.
Thanks for that link explaining the seat belts!
