Welcome to my new project. Its a 1988 Fiat Uno Turbo ie and its been off the road for 12 years. The shell needs some mild titivation around the sills and rear arches but isn't too bad. However it came off the road because the headgasket went, and the head has been removed for inspection purposes. The fleet. Black car will be for sale soon, 12 months test, cracking mechanicals, body solid but scruffy, interiors a bit scruffy, £295. And now the turbo. Needs a good wash to get rid of the bird curse word. Tax disk! Its lowered a fair bit Engine bay And finally a nice suprise. I didn't even check the underneath before I bought it. Turns out it has been treated to a full suspension rebuild at the front with new wishbones, balljoints etc etc and has Koni or similar shocks on. Oooooh the plans the plans. First job is to sort the rust out for which i've got the panels already. The engine will be fully rebuilt with the bottom end lightenend and balanced. However using the "logic" that stuff has been stood for 12 years I bought some nice new bits. Namely this Full race head And this Stage 2 IHI turbo with Forge ajustable actuator. I've also got a modified inlet manifold with a 5th injector added, which will kick in at 1.3 bar. Looks wise it'll be fairly standard. I'm getting rid of all the heavy stuff, so the leccy windows are going. Interior will be completely stripped out and drilled etc etc. Only visual mod will probably be a dash of great intercooler strapped on the front. As for wheels, I've decided that the slotmags will not suit it, and they're too heavy really, so I bought these off ebay. They're Lotus Esprit S2 Speedline wheels, 14x7 and 14x7.5. They're really light and the stud pattern is within 2mm so should be perfect. Got a Fiat Uno's worth of dish too haha Matt

Should be a right go-er when you are done as these things weigh the grand total of curse word all!
With the extra stripping as well - it should fly!
Watching with interest!

Yeh it is a shame. I was originally planning on reshelling all the bits out of the turbo into the black car but the turbo isn't as rusty as originally thought.

Nice one! You've been climbing up the Uno food chain and now your at the top, a turbo is a great car and quite rare now too i'd wager. Those wheels should look pretty choice, nice dish! You gonna have a bit of stretch on those?

Yeh. This one is fairly rare as it has a 1299cc engine too most are 1301cc. No stretch on these i'm afraid trying to find some 195/45 14s for them. As i've said before stretched tyres are fine as long as you know their limits, and I think pushing 200 and something hp through a set of 165/50 stretched tyres is well past that limit lol.

I am a bit concerned about the stud pattern not being an exact fit. Even if the centre hole is a snug fit on the hub you will be pulling the studs sideways whenyou tighten the wheel nuts. I fitted Fiat wheels to a Triumph Vitesse year ago and the ride was appaling. The wheels where rotating on the studs and loosening themselves.

I'm re-drilling the hubs to the stud pattern required for the wheels. I was originally going to re-drill the rear hubs to 4x108 pattern so that I could use my 13x8 slotmags, but the holes would have been dangerously close to the edge of the hub. With the new wheels there's plenty of meat to re-drill. Thanks for you concern. Its good that people pick up on stuff like that as other people might think its fine and try to stick them on with normal bolts etc. Should be a fun project Do I remember correctly that the UNO Turbo engine fits in an X19? Forgive me if I'm talking out my @ss - it happens a lot... Yes apparantley they do. Would make it into the sportscar that it should have been imo Is in good nick considering its sat for soo long, Charlie welded up some of the interior holes didnt he? Look forward to seeing this progress Not sure who welded what yet. Theres 2 really shonky patches in the floor I think under the carpet, as underneath you can see where they've plated over a hole from the top and not welded it underneath. Will be chopped out and re-done properly with a nice buttwelded bit. Matt
