As mentioned on an insurance post about a week ago I've just bought an ex sprint/climb Richard Longman powered '78 Mini, it's got all the bits on it. Fully adj suspension, weber 45, leccy ignition, metty turbo block n box, stage 3 head, 1275 bored to 1293 etc etc. Did have a cage but the bloke had to remove it for insurance purposes.
The timing chain has snapped, a bolt that holds the thrust washer for the crank had worked loose and met the timing chain at full chat! I'll have to get a photo of the bolt. Very nasty. Should have it running at the end of the week.
Got all the dyno sheets and history too. 100bhp at the wheels when it was built. Not bad considering the spec.
Only thing is, the infamous rust has crept in. Front end is rough. Boot floor has holes and the floor pans have both been sandwiched. Hole in the inner arch too. I've got a project grasstrack car thats gagging to be restored to give to a company who are waiting to use someones Mini as a 'demo' car for a road going bike conversion...
So I might even break it yet. Not sure.
Heres the pics anyway. Note the faded paintwork, before/after!
As it stood:
Flat as your hat:
Half way point:
Ta-da (front is monster truck because it is jacked up by those blocks of wood!:
What do you think?
