From Ebay "almost runner" to actual runner and back on the road: It took more snatched hours than it really should have done and many obscure parts (from around the world!), but it now works better than I expected and really, erm, hauls, from about 18mph onwards ;D Great fun to ride, it'll be improved further as time goes on. I love the smell of Two-stroke in the morning, but 6V electrics are useless! I reckon it'll have to be a 1/4 litre stroker next....

Nice work mcbodge! i remember seeing it on the 'bay at the time. See you've got the old Michelin S83 wheel barrow tyre on the rear - i had the same on my monkey bike for a while - they're pretty grippy! Any more pics?

It certainly caused a stir when I rolled up at the office on it.
The rear tyre is good and was worth the pain of fitting it! I could do with one for the front.
I've no more good pics, but I'll get some more when the sun shines again.

Did you drive it on the road/footpath without getting any trouble?

Did you drive it on the road/footpath without getting any trouble? Yes, it's got Tax, MOT and insurance. On the move it's quick enough to keep up with traffic around town, just a bit slow off the mark. The wheels are 10"

Do you need a bike licence for it?

It's a 50cc 'moped', so you'd need L plates, a provisional bike licence and take the CBT course unless you've had a car licence since before 2001(?) in which case you wouldn't need the CBT or L-plates.

It seems that the fuel economy isn't bad @ 95-100mpg...
Handling is surprisingly good, although getting the footpeg down around a roundabout was interesting

Is it a Katia?
I'm sure I've got an original owners handbook for one of those.
I used to have a '72 Garelli Junior Rekord - 50cc, and it made a FS1E look very, very slow...

It is indeed a Katia.
I don't think any FS1E's would be quivering in fear against a standard one. The 2 stroke buzz and 'powerband' is quite entertaining in a 50% size & speed way though. The low slung shape and low weight means It changes direction really well.

I'll try and remember to have a look on the shelf for that book tonight - PM me your address and I'll stick it in the post if I find it.

Slight modification: It needs some tweaking to get the best from it though.

drilling out the jet to 0.7mm and advancing ignition really helped. It's still great fun to ride

The Garelli above might be for sale to make way for more projects.
