Found these little beauties in a really old Saab in a local scrappy and decided they needed to come home with me to Balti towers. I presented them to Mr Scrapyard man and he gave me a 'WTF ' look when I asked 'how much?' Anyway he lets me have them for £2 and procedes to tell me the Saab has been there for donkeys. I skip merrily back home thinking that I didn't need them, but they were too cool to just be sitting in a scrappy.
Pretty crusty hey. Anyway, this is probably a good reason why I haven't got a girlfriend at the minute, but as I had a couple of spare hours; I thought I procede on getting them looking top.
First off, I took them apart and decided to lightly sand down the mounting brackets and screwheads which had all developed a little rust. I straightened some of the brackets which were bent then primered and sprayed up.
I then took the speakers and tweeters out of the casings to find the speakers are an ear shattering 10 Watts!! These looked to be in good nick, however the paper cone part of the tweeters are a bit flakey.
Next up I had a go at cleaning the plastic casings, however everything I tried was no good (Black to black, Swarfega, spongy Shoe cleaner etc), they'd become too weathered; So in the end I decided to spray them up with some plasticote stuff I had knocking about and I've got to say I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out.
Now, should I sell (I don't really need more speakers) or should I mount them up in the Breadvan?
