Ciao Retroisti... It has been a while, I have done some serious house remodelling that has used up both times & funds but lately I have been collecting some parts and once again I feel the need, the need to create.... A couple of pix from last night when I had a Cuba Libre with my Babe.... For those who don't know, The LTO Project is based on the last year of the upright 4-valve Java 500cc Speedway motor (97 rear wheel horses) and a late 90's ESO frame, the look will be in the 70's "skinny bike" tradition with 19" rear & 23" front wheels (quite large) but it's almost impossible to pigeon hole this ride, it's a DP Race Tech original.... DP says: Hopefully it will turn it's wheels in anger later this summer....

what be those bars if you don't mind me asking?? I tend to use motocross renthals on most of my pushbikes, but those you have there are EXACTLY what I'm after! I saw some similar on an old speedway bike once, but the old owner just gave me the 'they've been on the bike 50 years' line... - kev

kevfromwales in da house: what be those bars if you don't mind me asking??
I think I have tested some 10 to 12 set of bars and I'm not 100% sure about these either, might narrow them down a bit and then they'll work, we'll see. The bars are from Lucas (the old English brand now German owned) called Speedfighter, should be available through any Motorcycle Dealer....
terraroot in da house: 97bhp!!!!!! you are gonna detune it right? ethnol?
NO!!!!! It runns on methanol like all Speedway bikes and I will not detune it, sure it will not be a bike to go longer tripps on since it has no gerabox and just a clutch but I have a 2-speed Ice racing box that I just might use, we'll see......
DP says: This little 97bhp / 90kilo monster will ROCK......

194 brake horse power per liter four stroke single cyclinder. 1077 brake horse power per ton. NO REAR SUSPENSION.
Just has to point that out in full in case anyone was questioning your manliness.

terraroot in da house: 194 brake horse power per liter four stroke single cyclinder. 1077 brake horse power per ton. NO REAR SUSPENSION.And whoever said I don't have HUGE cohones!?!?!?!?!?! trg1984 in da house: do u have pics of other bikes you've build dp??Three bikes I have pix of at the moment.... Hated the paintjob on this one, was done just days before Custom Bike Show 1994 (where this pic is taken) and had no chance to redo it, it went primer again shortly after this pic... I first built the gold bike (it was painted NY Taxi yellow then) and sold it to a friend, I missed it sooo much I built "The Twin" and we both had them painted in metallflake (by a young Jesse James), mine green and the other gold. Pic taken outside Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas when they opened in 1991 or 92 if I remember right..... slater in da house: Customs based on speedway bikes, why have I not seen any before!!Maybe because no one has been brain damaged enough to think one up, yet..... DP says: Form before function could be the name of the project but Left Turn Only sounded much better....

Ive allways thought along the lines of taking a normal bike and making it more like a speedway/grasstracker but the other way around makes more sense!

trg1984 in da house: I didnt even know jesse james was a painterAt the time he did these in 89 he did not know he was a painter himself, the owner of the gold bike was a fiend of Jesse and made him do it, I guess he don't really paint stuff these days... slater in da house: Ive allways thought along the lines of taking a normal bike and making it more like a speedway/grasstrackerLike good guy & world champ bike builder Stellan Engeland did with his Hulster and walked away with the win in the AMD Championship.... Having seen it close up I can only say that not only was Stellan a Speedway racer som years back he has also brought some of that into the Hulster 8 valve..... DP says: Although mine will be the other way around, custom & bobber influences on a Speedway bike.... Edit: The pix of "The Twins" was taken at Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas grand opening September 7 1990, I guess alcohol makes you forgett things....
