got one too in red " hello , is batman in ? " ;D got it for the cool factor and as i get ever increasingly iritated by daily society it gives a great slam to the reciever that a mobile beep will never replicate

Used to be hugely frustrating dialing the wrong digit after getting through most of the number There was also quite a technique since it didn't like it if you dialled either too fast or too slow ;D teeeheeehee, I remember that, you had to let the dial spin back then dial the next number, jump in too soon and it would jam and you'd have to hang up and start again. those were the days... happy times.

Got two of these, a red one (earlier version called 706) and a green 746 as in misteralz' picture - they have a great chunky feel to them and remind me of my youth!
I remember when (in about 1981) we moved into a new house and waited something like 4 months for BT (may have been G.P.O Telephones then) for them to come and fit a new phone -a cream 746)
I found a non working blue Trimphone in a junk pile a couple of years ago, gave to a mate who later sold it on Ebay for £40. So I guess they must be a lot rarer than the standard ones! IIRC the first Trimphones were very unreliable when new.

Well it arrived a couple of days ago and it connected up no problem. It's great to hear it ringing but the speaker quality's naff. Got a repro dial centre with the name of our exchange and the last three digits of our number just to add a touch of authenticity. Want another one purely to hide it in the loft space.

You could try buying another speaker off the 'Bay - the earpiece just unscrews and the two wires are attached via a small screw (or two, can't remember). These phones were made to be easily repaired and/or updated (how times change!) and nothing on them is complicated. There are lots of NOS parts on ebay as well.

gotta love the style of the GPO 746, I have a lovely black and cream one that I got off ebay for about £18 with modern internals. They used to be cheap to buy but I think there was one on big brother which may have pushed prices up a bit. Best thing about em is that you can dial numbers by hitting the hang up button things say you wanted to dial 2523857 you just tap 2times -pause- 5 taps -pause- 2 taps -pause, takes the curse word for mobiles tho!

We've got one very similar to that in the hall, use it all the time.
Love it when I have friends over and they try to use it.......Sigh........the uneducated masses, eh?

Got a green one just like that in the shed... was thinking of looking at the wiring the other day.
Out of interest how much does one pay for one on the bay? (Yes I know I could do a search but.....)
