Well, it's looking better now, almost all the bricks are gone, only about 500 left (that's still over 2 metric tons!), after the 4th visit to my neighbours field to drop the bricks off on Saturday, the truck was struggling to get back up the hill (it was a mudbath, my towbar was actually resting on the ground!!) we decided to call it a day. 300 of them are stacked down the drive, so the actual old garage area is looking remarkable clear compared to how it has been... I've also been moving slabs from round the bonfire, filled 24 rubble sacks (barely made a dent in the leftover rubbly bits! lol), found some strange long reinforced concrete things lying around the outside of the garage too - not sure what they are, but they've got to go! I've got a load of pics on my phone, but I ain't at my usual PC today, so ain't got my data lead to hand so they can wait until this evening. I think the worst thing about taking the truckloads of bricks is that you have to move everything twice - once into the truck, then back out again! lol Fortunately I've had a bit of help, my Mrs, my neighbour and her mum have been helping at various points - loading and unloading, so that's good. I'll be having the bonfire on the 29th too, so that will be the end of that pile. Although it doesn't really matter, because this week in the evenings and Easter weekend will mostly be finish moving the bricks and slabs, marking out where to dig and then start digging too. My arms ache so badly today it's not even funny, I can barely hold a 2 litre bottle of water out at arms length... Still, it's all character building, eh? Being an I.T. Gimp by day, I'm not used to all this manual labour... I think the sweetest sight of all will be the readymix lorries reversing down my drive! hehe Cheers, Martin

A few pics for your delectation and delight! Here's what 300 neatly stacked bricks on my drive looks like - that would be in excess of 1200KG for some idea of weight... 24 full rubble sacks, it's cleaned the first few feet of floor up a bit... And the site as of Sunday evening - the pile of bricks over to the far right at the back have now also been moved, I did that last night after I got in from work (and fitted a new exhaust to my bike...!) Soon be ready to dig!

Woo, easter weekend brought some digging! Unfortunately, like a tw@t I was pi55ing around on my daughters 'disney princess' scooter on Friday morning, tried to jump it and ended up on a heap on the floor with my hands cut to ribbons, so it made the digging quite hard going! lol Still, at least my little girl was concerned..... for her scooter! Still, not to worry, got a bit done over a couple of the days, the other 2 were a bit of a washout due to either weather or family commitments. Here's a couple of pics - the wheelbarrow gives it some quite good scale I think Got to work next weekend So will start digging round the other side in the evenings, then the following weekend (5th/6th April), the digger will be hired and I can go down to the depths that I need to in order to make the building regulations dept happy! Cheers, Martin

It's gonna be a good bonfire And it's actually about 6 foot from the hedge, so it's not too bad. Besides which, the hedge is coming down as far as the shed to make way for a fence and give better clearance to the garage once built

Just to brag, I do still have this garage as well, but it's 7 miles away and it's full of bikes, bits of bikes and Merc 190! Dollywobbler, no matter how big your garage is, it ain't big enough! I want an aircraft hanger already Rysz42, cheers, I'll bare it in mind for when I get to that stage! I live in a former panel beaters shop...Plenty of space fpor cars and i can make as much noise as i want,my neihbours tend to be noisier than me. But a good mate just bought a leisure center,it has two basket ball courts, indoor cricket pitch, squash courts, cafe and suanas etc etc ,It's about 10 years old. ...Just to keep his cars in it. And it's true, the bigger the shed, the bigger the pile of curse word you will own to fill it up. ;D

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Hired from East Midlands Digger Hire (www.emdh.co.uk IIRC) - it's only down the bottom of town so delivery was cheap! lol

Cheers, thanks. We make hire software, so I am sometimes able to wangle discounts here and there, but they are not one of ours...

Happy Digging Boys.

Well, that's the first day's digging done! Should hopefully have all the trenches dug by the end of today - the biggest problem is shifting the spoil to the front garden... Everywhere I rang up to hire a little dumper from had them all hired out! Some pics Yeah, that's a deep trench!! A digger! A digger, a digger, a digger!! And here's where we're up to as of the end of yesterday More pics (and maybe videos) later!

Well, weekend (and the digger) have come and gone, and there's good and bad news... The first major bit of bad news is that waking up on Saturday morning, 2002Gimp came round and said 'where's your fence gone' - so I went and had a look, and we'd had a mini 'landslide'. Bum. So, we got as much of that out with the digger as we could (difficult as access to the far end was now impossible, so that will have to come out by hand - any volunteers for helping? lol) Undeterred, we carried on with the rest of the strip and finally we got it all done. The grab lorry (lorries...) are booked for Wednesday, and they can just about squeeze up my drive, so that's a bonus, saves me shifting any more muck to the front garden. The building regs officer is also coming round on Wednesday so he can take a look and advise if the depth etc. is ok - keep your fingers crossed for me, with a bit of luck, I might get the concrete poured this week (got wed/thu/fri off work, so I should be able to get *something* done....!).
