Well, it turns out that on Sunday when I fell off my mountain bike in the peaks, I broke a rib! It ached a bit yesterday, but hurts like hell today when I twist/pull/do too much. Still, I need to get my roof done, so I thought I'd better get on! In accordance with the advice above, I'm going to do a couple of rows of wood, then stagger the next 2 and so on and so on. Anyway, enough waffle, here's today's efforts - I can't tell you how good it feels to have a slightly darker garage inside More tomorrow - weather permitting of course....

Having cracked ribs in the past, fair play for getting on the roof! I found coughing was enough to have me wanting a lie down.

Jeeeeeeez! Just spent 2 and a half hours of works time reading through this bad-boy today. Started at about 7.30am and just finished.
All I can say is.....Wow! That is some staying power and Mr. Gimp must be one of the best mates in the entire world (either that or you've got dodgy pictures of him in a compromising situation)
Good on ya and glad it's 'home straight' time almost.
Also, just a tad envious.....mutter...mutter...mutter.......

only the one cracked rib? There are people out there riding up mountains with 3 fractured ribs, cracked elbows, and all manner of road rash. Granted they are professionals in the Tour de France.....
Fair play for cracking on with it though (pun intended) Hope your ribs heal quickly!

Heh, yeah just the one thankfully! Those Tour de France riders have balls of steel - I've seen some of the crashes people come back from in the past...!
Having said that, when the adrenaline kicks in, you can pretty much do anything - you just pay for it later (was underneath the Jeep welding last night, paying for it now though!!

At work so can't see the pics yet but glad to see you're progressing. I'm waiting to see if I get planning permission for mine (10.5m long x 6.5m wide x 4m high). Neighbours were OK so hopefully I'll get it. Shame I can't afford to get it done straight away

Good luck Baz - sounds like a similar beast of a garage to mine, I just can't wait until I've got the roof covered over. No need to tell me about not being able to afford it either - I know exactly how you feel. Just stick with it and it will come good in the end! Besides, if I finish it this year, I'll only be 2 years behind schedule lol EDIT: Just realised I've left a bag of nails on the roof looking at the above pics....!

Well, I got back from a week in the sun yesterday (well, Dorset on the south coast anyway - it was mostly sunnyish!) and I figured I ought to get cracking again. My broken rib is feeling a whole lot better so up I went. I started off by finishing a few rows of the battens on the LHS and then it's the bit I wasn't really looking forward to - starting the RHS. I'd not left *that* much room between the garage and next door's garden, thankfully there was just enough to get the ladder and circular saw up to chop the rafters down to the correct overhang. Then I got the roll of roofing felt stuff up there, got it nailed across the first 3 trusses and then dropped it. Doh! Thankfully it didn't tear and I got it back up and carried on. Got to the end (after hacking my way through brambles and hedges and such) and then got a couple of bits of battening nailed on at the start. Then I was knackered and called it a day. Hopefully the weather will be clement tomorrow evening and I'll be able to carry on when I get back from work! Up above: The darkness is closing in! My working area for the day.... Stay tuned folks!!

Darkness closes in..... Well, just a quick update - I've been chipping away at it and here we are today. Another week or two of evenings and I'll be ready for tiles which will hopefully be ordered this week!

I always wanted a garage like that.. but with a row of windows at the top of the roof (like the old swimming pools used to ave) your pic above reminds me of that... tons of natural light

Well, the odd hour in the evening here, the occasional bit of work here and we have a watertight garage! Well, from above at least.... My knees hurt from all the crawling around up there - probably should have bought some kneepads. Next job is to order the tiles and the wood to make the doorframes and doors. I quite fancy making stable doors for the side doors so I'll see how easy that looks to do! I should finish stripping and then painting the windows before glazing them too... At least I can work undercover now!!

Yeah!
As far as the stable door goes, the last one I did I made the door in one then cut it in the middle. Only thing is I wish I had hung it first then cut it so it would look perfect from the front, Oh well!

Sweet!
Get yourself a bit of board and a bit of batten and make yourself a sitting board. Helps greatly.
Keep up the good work.

That's an amazing garage, I really must sort something out with mine one day. It'll have to wait till next year now though :/ Best of luck with the rest of it
