I vaguely remember DJing my dads cassettes and 8 Tracks in the early 80's cool kit they don't make em like they used to.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I must take a pic of my BSR 8-track player. I have it in my hi-fi stack because it's a brilliant conversation piece for those who notice it but I've never had any tapes for it.
Personally I avoid vintage transistor amplifiers though. When transistors were new they were noisy and designers hadn't quite got the hang of distortion. Plus single ended power supplies meant that there was usually a great big DC blocking capacitor in the line to the speaker which sucked away most of the "fi" in "Hi-fi".
When I was a spotty recent EE graduate many years ago I used to have a 1970s Amstrad amp that had died in which I'd retained the switchgear but fitted a dual power supply and two off-the-shelf MOSFET amp modules. Didn't cost much, sounded rather good, foxed my geeky friends into believing 1970s Amstrad kit was worth having(It wasn't!).

to be honest I was using the amp up until this weekend and loved the sound it gave, the belts in the 8-tracks need a change as its beginning to warble, the cartridge sticking out is on e of the fwe I never recorded over cause its Floyd-dark side of the moon. but at the mo its sitting unloved in the box room till I decide what to do with it due to getting a surround sound system and widescreen for the pc... man it makes the movies come alive !!!! so instead of a tatty back room I got the paint out had a clearout and now have this for my surfing time !!
