Maan, that Phillips one is BOSS, all of them are so cool........Love period stuff - like when I built a late 80's techfest out of totally random unknown Japanese ripoffs. Great fun! I have a strong lusting for a ghettoblaster now, damn you

My Philips did service for about 20 years, and when I sold my last house in SA, I left it in the garage where it had worked for a long time.
They are a bit of a flashback too.... how things have changed.

Awesome!! I've keep meaning to sort out the in car sounds in the Sunny by getting an old, broken ghettoblaster, gutting it and wiring it up to some kind of headunit (hidden in the glove box of course).. so it can sit on the back seat looking cool, and play tunes! This is awesome :

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I collect them too! Well, I'm starting my collection - I have two. I'm picking up a wicked Panasonic one in a few weeks. I've converted one to play MP3's, which is handy

Nice Sharp the GF767 and GF777 are among the Ghettoblaster holygrail I tried to get a none working GF777 of Ebay a few weeks back but it went for 150 quid all busted up and not working I did plan to give it a chop and modernise the insides but wasn't prepared to pay that for one in that state.

I absolutely love ghettoblasters, but for some baffling reason don't own one. I do have an enormous TV/tapedeck combo unit from the early 80s though! This site is well-recommended: pocketcalculatorshow.com/boombox/

Not really portable, but back in 1982 I bought one of these: Sharp VZ-series, you could play both sides without turning it over, and boy was it loud!!! Sadly long-gone now, a mate had a car crash into his gaff in 1989, I was tempted to take it up there and drop a breeze-block on it, add it to his insurance claim then spend the cash as a deposit on a monster Akai separates system, but of course I didn't.......
