SidewaysGTM and I popped to the breakers last week to look at rear calipers for his disc conversion, had a wander around and saw these... Opel Monza, nothing visually wrong with it Old skool Toyota Hiace Articulated army vehicle next to a tidy Corrado 16V Peugeot 504s Wolsley 2200 Amphibious vehicle, what are these called? I can`t remember.

The 6 wheeled amphibous is an ALVIS STALWART!
drove one a few years ago, had always wanted too, what a dissapointment! but it was still a scream ;D
and ownership is a full time job... probably why its in the scrappy!

Suzuki 4x4 US-spec B MGB and Renault4 Austin 1800 Dodge Camper and Leyland horsebox Not sure what these are There were 3 T25s (one very flat), a Capri Mk3 and a Midget as well. They used to have a couple of Imps, Marinas, Allegros, SD1s, Mk2 Escorts, Minis and a Citreon DS21 but they seem to have had a clear out.

That's the one, inside the cab was full of water, leaves, branches and everything else. Both the military vehicles seemed as though they had been parked up for a long time before they ended up here.

I hate seeing really tidy cars in the scrap yard with nothing apparently wrong with them - it's quite sad . That Alvis Stalwart is great!! Apparently when the MOD decomissioned them they de-activated the amphibious capability (dunno how - drilled holes in the floor maybe?! ;D). I've always wanted one!! And of course it'd have to be made amphibious again!

And of course it'd have to be made amphibious again! nah mate, some of them had the drive shafts removed from the gearbox too the Dowty water jets, but most of them where left in. what was true tho that alot of them never saw water in MOD use! the biggest pain of ownership apart from 1-2mpg is the fact it has only got 1 diff! as has the other ALVIS 6 wheelers (Saracens Saladins etc) so they all suffer chronic wind up in the transmission, and the transmission isnt that strong either sorry about babbling ;D

the m.o.d. removed the gearbox and props which drive the water jets.you can reinstall them ,as they did on slavage squad but it turns miles per gallon into gallons per mile.these things are great at night as they shoot two foot flames out of the exhausts.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

where do ya find these scrapyards? all the ones i know of are regimented lines of newish models, which spend a fortnight in there before having all the valuable bits professionally removed and the shell crushed.
seriously - went in one and asked for scirocco bits to be told 'naah mate, don't do anything more than 5 years old"
nottingham folk - i need to know where to go and poke around knackered old cars dangerously balanced on top of each other!
