A mate's Bay window camper appears to have been stolen the night before last (4th-5th June) From outside their house on the eastern side of Wellingborough, Northants Its a 78' Devon (T reg) in Dakota beige with a rather distinctive Sheldon high top.... looks like; (the one in the middle) So it would be most appreciated if you guys could keep your eyes/ears open for anything that sounds suspicious. Being a high top van it wouldn't fit in your average garage so is either out in the open or in quite a substantial building/unit. The owners are very upset as its provided them with some great holidays & memories over the last 5 or so years

Clearly there's still a few scumbags in the VW scene. Remember chaps, cheap parts come at a high price. Keep 'em peeled.

Any alarm/tracker fitted? No i'm afraid not - I guess my mate didn't think anyone would be interested in stealing - what is not the most fashionable of campervans with rotten front arches & a missing VW badge (the above picture is quite old & the van has deteriated a little since then) All the glass (including lights) However, had been etched with its reg no. TOU 111T My fear is that it will be broken for parts - as its a bit too distinctive to sell on as a whole? Yep Rmad - unfortunately the VW scene is very large - and the demand for vehicles/parts is high, so it always attracts the unscrupulous ones who are after making a quick buck

Happy ending to this one guys n' gals My Mate's van was found safe & well in the nearby town/village of Irthlingborough. Only damage we understand is a missing slat from the louvred window (how the thieves got in) & damage to the ignition. Thanks for your vigilence

Did they catch any thieves, or was it just a joyrider job?

Bit of a weird one really - seems the van was just found parked up by the side of the road, nothing had been taken from inside the van (camping equipment was left stored in the van) And apart from the missing louvre & damage to the ignition the van is unscaved from its ordeal.
I wonder if the thief just took it for the ride home? However it would be nice to think that perhaps whoever took it saw the various threads that myself & others put up on the various forums (+ an article in the local paper) And realised that either the van was so well known that it was unsellable or got an attack of guilt so decided to leave it somewhere to be found?
Edited to add;
Lordyoung - the van would have been still in my friends possession last Sunday, so quite likely to have been seen on the A6 - though if it had a different numberplate was probably a different van? The Sheldon high top make this van pretty unique I guess, i've seen other bays with the same conversion but not knowingly seen one with the same colour scheme.

Unlikely. In that case they would be more likely just to torch it or put it in the canal or some other place where it wouldn't be found.

glad they got it back, horrible having a car nicked, my gf's car was nicked in broad daylight from outside my house, driven 18 miles to go nick a bike, which they failed to do, and dumped and found, cost nearly £500 to get sorted, inc an immobiliser. scruffy chavs got caught on cctv tryin to nick the bike and have been to court though

My father-in-law had his Escort van nicked once. A copper spotted it in Derby with a shifty looking chap standing next to it. Copper asked if it was his and he said "no" and walked off - leaving all his robbing tools in the back of it! He got the van back and had the added bonus of having a nice, new crowbar!
